The Vice President of Practice Quality and Innovation (PQI) is accountable to the President and Chief Operations
Officer. This is the executive responsible for clinical and operational quality improvement program development, change
management for the organization and its providers and clinical staff, and gathers, analyzes, interprets, and presents data
to system and network groups and collaborating partners throughout UNCHC Ambulatory Services and UNC Health
Alliance (UNC HA) independent practices. This leader supports population health and develops and drives clinical
improvement and efficiency strategies through the influential delivery of actionable analytics.
The UNC Health Alliance is UNC Health Careâs integrated Population Health Services Organization. The Alliance is the
scalable infrastructure, charged to deliver solutions for UNCHC and UNC Health Alliance to be a leader in value-based
care delivery and population health. The units aim is to transform financing, operations and care delivery to maximize
health and value.
With the quadruple aim as true north, Health Alliance leaders:
- Develop payment models and payor partnerships to lead statewide transition to Value
- Drive delivery of superior care through continuous improvement and data driven solutions
- Develop the highest value provider network in the region
- Deliver on promise to improve care access, patient, staff and provider experience
- Develop/implement leading population health and care management solutions at expense below national benchmark
- Drive care redesign to reduce unnecessary variation in care across UNCHC and Health Alliance network
- Transform care through data, analytics, actionable reporting, and transparency
The Vice President of PQI is a member of the UNC HA senior management team, responsible for every aspect of quality
improvement, change management, and analytics, including budget, finance, planning, resources and operations.
Receiving reports from directors to track financial and operational performance in line with unit and company strategies
and, in turn, presents reports to the UNC HA president and chief operating officer. This leader will develop and implement
a program to advance high quality/low cost health care delivery to support the mission and core values of UNCHC and
UNCHA and its clinically integrated network of independent partners and health systems.
This leader must display outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills. The ability
to build consensus among key stakeholders, including providers, employees, and leaders within affiliated health
systems is essential. Demonstrated ability to build and lead a high functioning team is required. Requires flexibility and
responsiveness to adapt decision-making activities in frequently changing situations.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience, with a minimum of 7 years of health care management and
leadership experience.
Clinical experience is required; experience in physician practice management and operations is preferred.
Extensive experience in quality improvement processes, change management, and the analytics necessary to support
these efforts; experience in project management, EMR development/deployment, vendor management, and budgeting.
Education:
MD or DO required. MPH preferred.
Other Skills/Knowledge:
Working knowledge of alternative payment models (APM) with direct experience from at least one APM initiative (i.e. CMS
NGACO or other payer risk-based arrangement). Thorough knowledge of NCQA recognition programs (PCMH, PCSP,
DRP, HSRP), Meaningful Use, and a working knowledge of advanced reporting and analytics.
Must possess a pragmatic, applied orientation to clinical quality improvement (i.e. Lean Six Sigma, Hoshin, etc.) and a
solid grounding in health care delivery and evidence-based medical practice. Also, must have the ability to interact and
