What we’re looking for:
Winchester Interconnect has an immediate opening for a Director of Engineering. The Director of Engineering will be tasked with delivering cost-effective bulk cable and cable assembly as well as custom interconnect design solutions on time and right the first time. They will collaborate with Sales Account Managers, Regional Sales Managers, and Quality, Production, and Process Engineers to support our customer’s needs.
The Director of Engineering will also be tasked with leading the development of innovative product capabilities based on customer input, market trends, and company strategy. They will play a key role in supporting the company’s growth and profit improvement objectives by driving continuous improvement into cable assemblies and the extrusion process yields, speeds, raw material losses, utilization, and efficiency.
Job Responsibilities:

Maintain compliance for all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures

Identify high impact opportunities to improve overall assembly, extrusion, and cabling process utilization and efficiencies, and drive improvements to completion and validated financial impact

Identify high impact opportunities to improve overall quality in terms of product produced and reduction of raw materials process losses, and drive improvements to completion and validated financial impact

Prioritize and implement optimized production improvement objectives to deliver cost savings, improve quality, enhance safety and support new product introduction, on schedule, in a team environment

Build regulatory capabilities and manage regulatory requirements and their impact on process requirements (UL, CSA, NEC, cUL, IEC, CE, RoHS, ISO 9001)

Ensure process controls are implemented to monitor product quality and identify “out of control” states and control the process before producing out of specification product

Deploy closed-loop statistical process controls where appropriate in the assembly and/or extrusion process

Support development engineering in new product development contributing capability assessment, gaps versus upcoming new products, and ensure the gaps are addressed during product design

Work directly with process engineering and suppliers to develop innovative engineered solutions ensuring alignment between assembly and extrusion machine capability, materials, and customer requirements

Manage and direct Associate Engineers and support personnel

Lead team to successful on-time, on-budget program completion

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policy and applicable local and federal laws

Contribute as a leader in the implementation of Kaizen events and Lean Manufacturing techniques to streamline production and maximize efficiencies

Identify insufficient processes/equipment and suggest improvement/replacement opportunities to assist with the development of investment planning

Work with internal and external suppliers of materials, equipment, and services to execute projects, resolve problems, and improve processes

Select, design, and modify tooling, fixtures, and equipment as necessary to improve safety, quality, throughput, and productivity

Lead and facilitate continuous improvement activities

Standardize best practices across departments and within Winchester

Design or recommend assembly equipment, fixtures and extrusion equipment available in the market to build operational capabilities including attendant control systems, and work to map Winchester’s current and future state product mix to the appropriate investments to ensure industry-leading performance in quality and cost competitiveness

Report departmental agreed-upon metrics on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis

Other duties may be assigned as necessary
Criteria for Success:
-
Bachelor of Science in Engineering – Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, or Material Science from an accredited college or university

5-7+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, extrusion engineering, bulk cable and/or cable assembly or interconnect
-
Extrusion process engineering and bulk cable manufacturing and cable assembly experience
-
Injection Molding and Over Molding experience
-
Material science experience is a plus
-
Quality assurance/improvement tools and techniques
-
Self-motivated – requires little daily direction or supervision

Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills

Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution

Fact-based, comfortable with empowerment and accountability

Strong ability to positively lead others through change

Program Management skills
Technical Expertise:
-
Lean manufacturing – Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt\Skills: Excellent knowledge of bulk cable and cable assembly design, materials, components, processes, and electrical/mechanical testing and regulatory approvals; excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Database navigation, Internet

Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems

Experience using Google Apps and G-Suite applications a plus
