The VPPC is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and contributes to establishing the overall direction and annual operating goals of the organization. He/she attends Board meetings and selected Board Committees to report on patient care issues with emphasis on the development and achievements of the nursing organization. In collaboration with the Vice president and Chief Medical Officer, the incumbent works with nursing and physician leaders to develop and disseminate a philosophy and approach to care that results in meeting the highest standards of care and service when benchmarked against other systems regionally and nationally. The individual provides direction to nursing and other patient care leaders and holds them accountable for achieving organizational and individual goals. The VPPC determines the resources required to achieve desired outcomes in the most efficient manor and is accountable for operating within the allocated resources.

Minimum requirements include: B.S. in Nursing, Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business or a related field, Nursing license or eligible for licensing in Rhode Island, Five years of experience in a significant leadership position in a hospital or major healthcare provider setting.

Personal characteristics required for the VPPC position include: Demonstrated commitment to the profession of nursing through participation in professional societies and other related organizations. Demonstrated ability to lead through motivation and respect for the contributions of all disciplines. Demonstrated verbal and written communication. Evidence of ability to work effectively with medical staff in the context of a complex organization.
