About our company culture and this position:
Our company culture is the #1 reason people choose to work here, and stay once they’re here. It would be a mistake to say that things like our fun quarterly events, no-dress-code policy, and efficient 40-hour work week define our culture – they’re the positive side effects of our culture. Our culture is built on good people who love their work, and work hard and intelligently to produce great results. We’re grateful for the work we all do, and we tell each other that. We are a group of thoughtful, helpful people with integrity, and we get stuff done. When you have that, it doesn’t really matter what clothes you wear or if you booked an 80 hour work week (which we recommend against doing).

About This Opportunity

As the International Licensee Operations Manager of the Mobile Outfitters brand, you will be the one who gathers and knows the data behind our most and least successful 800 stores inside and out, and who uses that data to drive decisions around all aspects of retail (promotions, store design, employee best practices, training, etc) to increase same-store sales year over year 10%+. In the end, you will have the satisfaction of seeing your work all over the world, in some of the most famous and highly trafficked shopping malls, while knowing that your impact made dozens of local entrepreneurs and thousands of employees more successful.

Our Core Values

It’s important to know what core values we care about here, and what we’re trying to do as a company. Our vision is to make products that people love, and a company people love to work for. How we get there is through our core values:

Help
each other, and allow others to help you
Have Integrity in everything you do
Be a thoughtful person, and be thoughtful in your work
Execute! We want people who deliver on goals and promises.

Job Details

Title: International Licensee Operations Manager
Compensation: $60k – $80k base salary plus $30k bonus based on performance
Reports To: Eric Griffin, Co-Founder
Location: 3901B Main Street, Suite 106, Floor 1 Philadelphia PA 19127
Job Type: Full Time

What does an International Licensee Operations Manager do, anyway?

You will frequently visit our most successful, high-volume, international retail locations in order to determine, document, and enforce best merchandising practices to drive same-store sales growth. You will also work with the sales and marketing teams to create product displays, merchandising plans, sales best practices, and store designs in order to standardize what’s working best. The merchandising plans that you create, and work 1 on 1 with our customers to implement, will maximize store sales and profitability. This is a key role in the company reporting to the Co-Founder.

There are many challenges to this dynamic role. For one, we currently do not have an understanding of what is working, and what is not, when it comes to merchandising. Because of this, our individual stores are not standardized, and we do not have any formal merchandising plans. Because of this and local market restrictions, Mobile Outfitters’ kiosks come in many shapes and sizes. This means you will need to look at over 800 locations in 50 countries, categorize them into just a few store types, and create plans that are realistically going to be implemented, taking into consideration the constraints of certain markets, locations, and budgets.

Nearly all of our stores are overseas, with our highest volume stores in Europe and the Middle East. You will need to be comfortable in a variety of cultures, and being away from home for 2-3 weeks at a time. We do not own any of our locations directly, so it will be critical to obtain buy-in from Master Licensees to ensure adoption of any changes.

Lastly, this is an extremely fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment. For the past 3 years in a row, Mobile Outfitters has added over 200 locations per year around the world. It’s common for us to say that we’re running in dog years – every day has a week’s worth of activity.

If this sounds like you, your previous education, work experience, and passions probably sound like this:

  • College degree or higher

  • 5+ years experience of retail merchandising for consumer goods, experience with franchise stores and international stores a plus

  • Proven history of documenting best practices and creating merchandising plans that drive same-store sales growth 10%

  • Worldly and global, comfortable with international cultures, etiquette, and mannerisms

  • Enjoy travelling internationally, with the ability to spend up to 3 weeks every quarter overseas

  • Creative with a never-ending stream of ideas and improvements for merchandising, store layout, and customer experiences

  • Process and metric oriented, you love diving deep into the data to draw concrete conclusions

Lastly, here’s what success looks like in this position:

  • Drive an average of 10%+ same-store growth year over year by creating and implementing a merchandising plan for our 800+ retail locations.

  • Visit our highest volume international locations to understand and document what makes them successful (estimated 2-3 weeks of travel per quarter).

  • Work with the marketing team to create and maintain a merchandising plan for each store type, detailing store layouts, product displays, POS displays, planograms, and promotions.

  • Report monthly store performance with the Co-Founder, to demonstrate the impact our merchandising changes are having on same-store sales.

  • Create and maintain a merchandising scorecard in order to rate Master Licensees on their merchandising compliance.

  • Work with the marketing team to create communication to share new best practices and merchandising plans with all Master Licensees.

  • Hold monthly merchandising calls with Master Licensees to learn what is working, what is not, and hold Master Licensees accountable to our documented merchandising plan.

  • Work with the marketing team to develop seasonal merchandise strategies for our Style Skins product line.

  • Work with the marketing team to develop the overall look and feel our of retail locations, from physical form to graphic design.

  • Work with the Co-Founder and marketing team to develop key item sales, marketing, and merchandising strategies.

  • Work with the marketing team to develop merchandising assets (such as POS displays) that support the needs of individual Master Licensees while achieving space efficiency.
