Milestone Recovery is seeking a Director of Nursing to provide leadership in our detox program.
The Milestone detox program is unique in the state. Our nonprofit medical detox program serves up to 16 individuals at a time, and assists people to safely withdraw from alcohol, opioid, and benzodiazepine dependence. The program is staffed 24/7 by RNs, and is supported by our counseling team, our peer navigator program, as well as our medical director. The Director of Nursing we are seeking will hold a current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine, and will be someone with prior leadership experience. Preference will be given to those with experience serving people with substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders. Along with providing leadership of the detox program, the Director of Nursing interfaces with our many community partners, and will work to cultivate those connections. In addition, the Director of Nursing serves as a part of Milestone’s Leadership Team, and thus has a role in providing leadership within this important organization.

Director of Nursing
Position Profile: The Director of Nursing is responsible for leadership of Milestone’s Detox program and staff. Along with leading the detox program, the Director of Nursing interfaces with community partners, and serves as a member of the Milestone Leadership Team.
Qualifications Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current State Nursing Licensure in the state of Maine. Prior nursing leadership experience preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership of the detox program, in coordination with Milestone’s medical director and senior leadership.
- Responsible for hiring and evaluating performance of detox staff.
- Assesses detox procedures and practices, and leads necessary changes to ensure optimal client care within available resources.
- Responsible for understanding regulatory requirements of the program, and working to ensure that program remains in compliance with requirements and performance metrics.
- Responsible for managing detox schedule, ensuring that all shifts have appropriate coverage.
- Provide modeling and mentorship of professional nursing practices with all staff.
- Represent Milestone appropriately in meetings with community partners.
- Serve as a member of Milestone’s Leadership team.
- Work collaboratively with other Milestone program staff.
- Maintain highest ethical standards, including with regard to maintaining client confidentiality.
- Exercise tact and discretion as applies to staff personnel matters.
- Maintain close familiarity with clinical and administrative procedures of the detox program, with ability to provide direct services if necessary.
- Willingness to provide off-hours consultation to staff on an as needed basis.
- Accept and perform other related duties as assigned.
Cultural Qualifications: Provides leadership of the detox program and operates in a professional manner. Displays and models compassionate care for clients while maintaining climate of safety for staff and clients. Ability to represent Milestone in a professional manner with community partners. Able to work in collaboration with other Milestone programs and staff. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working with individuals experiencing substance use and other co-occurring disorders. Ability to evaluate current processes and procedures, and able to lead change where necessary.
Physical demands and work environment: Freedom of movement on a regular basis, operating office equipment, normal exposure to office environment, ability to lift up to 50lbs, may spend extended periods operating desktop computer, requiring hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity; physical activity requires walking, bending, standing and lifting.
