Director of Auxiliary Enterprises

Montgomery College, has an immediate need for a Director of Auxiliary Enterprises, in the department of Administrative and Fiscal Services. The position is located at the Montgomery College Central Services location in Rockville, MD. The work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with additional hours as needed. This Administrator Position is non-bargaining, grade 37.

The person in this position will manage operations of the auxiliary enterprises across the College to maximize revenue generation to support the college mission. This includes planning, directing and overseeing auxiliary revenue generating operations, including campus bookstores and food services, and management and coordination of community use of campus facilities.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop strategies for increasing auxiliary enterprises’ revenue, including marketing, technology, grant development, and budget development.
  • Collaborate with administrators and provosts to discuss, plan and implement recommendations.
  • Direct vendor relation management, including developing/negotiating contract terms and key performance indicators, and monitoring contract/vendor performance and delivery.
  • Hire, train, develop and supervise auxiliary enterprises staff; establish performance objectives.
  • Lead the development and management of budgets and forecasts. Identify, analyze and communicate variances to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local laws and tax codes that impact college auxiliary services’ operations.
  • Lead the development and management of auxiliary enterprises policies and procedures, develop service benchmarks; identify areas for improvement ensuring alignment with college mission and strategic plan.
  • Keep current with industry best practices. Assist with evaluating monthly financial statements and financial status/progress.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree (B.A. or B.S.) in business or a related field.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project management
  • 7 years of experience in higher education leading or supervising retail and service operations
  • Experience managing contracts
  • Financial and budget management acumen
  • Management, supervisory leadership and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic and tactical plans for simultaneous complex projects
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking/organizational/analytical/planning skills
  • Excellent written, oral and listening communication skills
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations
  • Demonstrated understanding of ethical conduct, particularly with regard to contract awards and management
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business or a related field
  • Certified Auxiliary Services Professional
