Port leadership recently created its first Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI). The Office is charged with ensuring that equity goals and objectives are incorporated throughout Port operations and providing strategic and policy direction on equity issues. The Office is led by a Senior Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, who is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reports directly to the Executive Director.

We are seeking an Communication Program Manager- Engagement and EDI that will be an equity, racial and social justice leader with a passion for inspiring others, representing OEDI’s mission and values around the equity work. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Organizational Change.

The EDI Engagement and Communication Program Manager will lead develop, manage, and implement internal and external communication tools and practices. They will also coordinate employee and community events and gatherings where conversations about equity will take place, building a strong foundation for Port-wide equity work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with External Relations and Communications team to develop a system by which OEDI creates content for internal and external partners.
  • Manage internal and external communications, including news media relations, social media outreach, website management, multi-media, public relations and other areas of communication.
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager of Organizational Change to learn about internal efforts and strategies to move towards building equitable systems and communicate these efforts broadly.
  • Connect with external partners and other governments and institutions working on equity, to collaborate and coordinate efforts.
  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans in support of OEDI’s Strategic Plan for equity efforts Port-wide.
  • Write or supervise writing of speeches, op-eds, news releases, online content, and other external and internal communications.
  • Research, write and distribute a variety of public information materials; formulate and provide accurate, authoritative responses to media inquiries; act as consultant to management and staff in the development of responses to media.
  • Recommend, plan, and implement employee engagement opportunities on equity Port-wide.
  • Recommend, plan, and implement community engagement opportunities for OEDI
  • Regularly meet with Port leaders and/or teams, including Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Diversity and Development Council, and Human Resources team to identify and strategize for employee engagement opportunities, and provide support to implement.

Minimum Qualifications:
Combination of education and experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:

  • Bachelor’s degree; and
  • Five (5) years of experience in communications and/or event organizing and management.
