Innovate the way we work

As the Head of Creative Design, you will set and manage the creative vision and design strategy for Institutional Marketing and translate it into tactical execution. Partner with design leaders across Vanguard as well as external agencies and consultants to evolve the brand design strategy and ensure appropriate translation to Institutional audiences.

Define the Institutional Marketing design organization, its objectives, and its processes, with ultimate responsibility for the caliber of the creative product. Partner with Head of UX and R&D, Head of Editorial, and other leaders to ensure creation of relevant and cohesive customer experiences. Manage and guide the work and careers of designers through mentoring, training, and motivating the staff.


In this role you will

  • Hires evaluate, and supervise crew. Provide guidance and training as necessary to develop crew. Set performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisions in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Expertly manage design system of large-scale program-level initiatives and marketing campaigns. Partner with teams across the enterprise in defining and communicating the design direction.
  • Work in partnership with cross-divisional teams and senior leaders. Take into account every aspect of the client experience, with business and marketing goals, to coordinate and deliver a creative vision to the highest possible standards. Has advanced knowledge of HCD, Agility, and Lean principles, visual design, user behavior, and Vanguard’s brand.
  • Establish and maintain design consistency, standards, and accuracy on all projects. Ensures implementation of standards within design group.
  • Expertly presents design solutions to senior management, project teams, partners, and stakeholders. Ensure the success of the strategy and the ability to champion the best possible client experience.
  • Develop and leverage a professional network across the enterprise to foster collaboration within the department to support department-wide initiatives, and to improve the ability of the department in resolving issues.
  • Train and mentor junior staff in best practices of client experience design. Provide guidance, training, and motivation.
  • Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Institutional Marketing is in the midst of a unique transformation. The Institutional Marketing leadership team, along with business partners across the enterprise, have spent the last several months designing a brand new future state organization focused around Agile marketing principles. What it takes

  • Minimum eight years related work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in a creative or technical field. Graduate degree preferred.
