Job Description Summary
The Executive Director will be the leader for Wake Forest University to set the strategic direction of online education for the University. This is a senior level University position, reporting to the Associate Provost. The Executive Director will work closely with Deans and VPs for planning and development of new online efforts for the University. This role will lead the coordination of efforts between the Provostâs office and the University units for the planning, development, implementation and launch of new online degree programs.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities
The Executive Director will provide leadership and direction for the Wake Forest University online strategy and approach. The leader will demonstrate eagerness to advance the mission of online education across Wake Forest University and exercise full participation, and at the highest levels, in the strategic visioning and planning for online learning at Wake Forest University.
Essential Functions:
- An ability to collaborate with institutional Academic Leaders (Provostâs Office, Deans, Registrar, etc.) to provide leadership for online learning and associated support resources.
- Current knowledge of market, research, and trends, including developments in the broader world of online learning and transitions in the overall higher education landscape to provide guidance, insight, and direction of how to best position online programs for success
- Experience to support collaboration with academic units to establish external relationships with a wide variety of online learning support resources (OPM, vendors, consultants, etc.) in order to extend internal resources and capabilities. The Executive Director will establish a University process for evaluating when and how to utilize third party vendors with selection being led by the Executive Director through a collaborative process with key internal stakeholders.
- Accountability for the coordination of processes related to new and existing academic programs and collaboration with the various university stakeholders providing centralized support for online learning, including information systems, instructional technologies, the library, admissions, and student support services.
- Educating university units on the options for identifying and implementing vital new programs, as well as managing budget, recruitment, marketing, and admissions activities in support of online enrollment goals.
- Leadership to strategically expand the Wake Forest/Wake Online brand, marketing reach, and overall impact of the universityâs online initiatives.
- Ability to leading the university in positioning Wake Forest as a school with a high quality, scalable, and financially sustainable online portfolio that leverages the unique strengths of Wake Forest.
- Ability to successfully execute initiatives related to building strategic partnerships, identifying and implementing new programs, and managing the budget, recruitment, marketing, and admissions in support of online and off-campus program enrollment goals
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate or terminal graduate degree and 5+ years of experience Leading two or more areas in a university or business setting related to: instructional design, online program management, media development, learning technology, marketing, enrollment services, budget/finance
- Leading teams with direct reports
Ability to create positive and open-minded inter-group communications - Deep knowledge of learning delivery systems and experience with learning management systems and associated software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills that easily translate for academic and community audiences
- Extensive knowledge of learning theories, adolescent/adult education, instructional design, outcomes-based assessment in online higher education and best practices in online program design
- Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, codes, and/or accreditation standards for college specific online programs
Accountabilities:
The Executive Director will be responsible for their own work as well as overseeing the staff of the Online Programs department.
