BVIC
The BVIC has served Monterey County residents since 1971. It offers a complete spectrum of services that help people adapt to the loss of sight. Collectively our staff provides support to between 350 and 400 people each year. The majority of our clients are seniors who often have other age-related health conditions. Our services are designed for the individual needs, abilities and goals of each person and are offered by our professional specialists in the comfort of home, community and at the BVIC. Services include Training in Orientation & Mobility, Independent Living Skills, Support Services, Information and Referral, Assistive Technology and the Marjorie McNeely Low Vision Clinic. An Optometrist, who specializes in low vision, evaluates clients in the clinic each week. The BVIC is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
MISSION
To empower the blind and visually impaired toward independent living through education, support services and skills training.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director is responsible for providing program, administrative and financial leadership for the BVIC. The Executive Director works closely with the Staff, Board of Directors, Volunteers and the Community to support the BVIC’s mission. POSITION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Salary: Salary negotiable
Minimum 40 hours per week FTE
Exempt
Benefits: Medical, dental & vision insurance; mileage reimbursement
Retirement: An opportunity to participate in a simple IRA (six-month waiting period to join)
Holidays: Ten paid holidays per year
Paid Time Off: Up to 20 days
Reports to: Board of Directors
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Seven years minimum experience in the non-profit sector, preferably as an executive director
- Strong and respected leadership with professionalism and compassion
- Comfortable with clients of varying degrees of vision impairment, age and background
- Respectful of confidentiality and integrity of the BVIC clients
- A team player able to provide support for each individual staff person and at the same time able to build a high performing service team based on mutual respect.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Programs
- Develop, implement and maintain procedures and guidelines that support the mission
- Ensure that all services are being provided effectively and efficiently
- Keep up with trends and developments in the field of blindness and vision impairment.

Finance
- Ensure that sound financial practices and procedures are followed including an audit and other
evaluation processes that maintain accurate and up to date financial records.
- Develop the annual budget in cooperation with the Board.
Fund Development
- Lead the BVIC with the Board in obtaining funding from a wide variety of fundraising strategies including individuals, planned-giving, events, earned income, community groups and other opportunities
- Establish and maintain relationships with community and service organizations and the business
community
- Grants: Proven experience/track record in researching, writing and editing Grant Proposals; skilled management of awards and feedback to donors.
Administrative
Human Resources
- Ensure that all personnel are effective and efficient representatives of the BVIC
- Implement recruitment, supervision, evaluation, conflict resolution and risk management
- Be sure that sound human resource practices are in place and
- Assure compliance with state/federal and agency personnel policies
- Make recommendations on policy changes as needed.
Communications
- Maintain regular communication with staff and hold monthly staff meetings with special meetings called as needed
- Acknowledge and maintain communication with donors, volunteers and supporters
- Serve as the main BVIC representative to the public, agencies and business community
- Engage and maintain working relations with community groups, funders and strategic partners to promote the goals of the BVIC and its clients.
Facilities
- Work closely with the Lions Clubs to maintain the buildings in safe and pleasant condition
- Supervise janitorial and gardening services
- Coordinate volunteer clean-up and other facility projects.
Governance
- Assist in development of board policies
- Work with the Board in setting direction and priorities
- Meet with the Board regularly to provide progress reports, accomplishments and challenges
- Provide support to Board committees to make sure the committees have what they need to be
productive
- Ability to cultivate community outreach to attract qualified volunteers and potential board members.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $75,000.00 to $90,000.00 /year
