Why It’s Exciting
This is an exciting opportunity to:
- Build and shape highly impactful software that makes a real difference in good people’s lives;
- Work in the globally massive construction technology sector that is red-hot with investor interest;
- Build a category around the impactful problem of construction payment;

What You’ll Do
The Director of Software Engineering at Levelset is responsible for leading software engineers, technical leads, and architects. You represent your teams to the rest of the company and are the focal point for development execution.
You are responsible and accountable for the team following through on execution and translating product requirements into high-quality software solutions. With the help and participation of the team, you are responsible for architecture and design decisions. Below are some more details about what you’ll be doing.
Measuring & Reporting On Team Execution
You’ll know when things are going well or poorly on your team, and when we’re are delivering the goods, because you will mature the way we measure, report, and analyze our engineering efforts. You’ll make sure these measurements are clear and comprehensive, and are front and center to all involved, and they will help the company make and support product and business decisions. And you’ll work collaboratively with your team to make sure that they deliver the right software on-time with the right quality measures and processes for support.
Contributing to Architecture and Managing Tech-Debt
You’ll be maintaining control over the software architecture and maintaining technical debt for the parts of the software that you build, and you’ll be working collaboratively with the architecture committee to drive wider architectural enhancements and debt repay. You’ll also be communicating with all stakeholders to make sure that architectural changes are aligned with everyone’s goals and debate cross-teams compromises to collaboratively find the right balance. Occasionally, you’ll be guiding your teams to evaluate and choose between 3rd party tools or solutions.
All The Tablestakes Stuff
Software hygiene will be good, engineering documentation will be done excellently, there will be no critical bugs, observability and failure detection will be built-in the system designs, there won’t be too much technical debt and we won’t be optimizing solutions pre-maturely before we validate fit. You’ll juggle all the feedback asking for a little of this and that, and you’ll separate the important, the essential, and the distractions. Your team will use the best suitable technologies pragmatically, and those will be well pruned, run, optimized, and cashed in on. Also, you’ll maintain open communication channels with product managers and technical leads to facilitate technical decision making.
