Director – Data Architecture & Analytics

The Director, Data Architecture & Analytics will build and nurture the implementation of the Windstream data/information architecture and data analytics platforms functions. This leader will maintain accountability for the structure and integrity of the information that is maintained within systems and platforms. This Director will define the vision, principles, and processes that guide the purchase, design, and deployment of data platform technology, assuring that technology solutions meet business requirements while aligning with long-term architectural goals and integrating seamlessly across multiple platforms and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of highly talented and inquisitive data analysts, data developers, Hadoop developers, and Data Scientists (onsite and offshore) helping them to create actionable insights and business intelligence to improve network capabilities.

  • Manages individual(s) including but not limited to hiring, training, work assignment, managing & evaluating performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.

  • Collaborate with peers, engineers, database managers, product owners and business analysts to design and implement strategies to test, validate and communicate data-driven insights.

  • Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue, expense and/or capital budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals. Continually seek the opportunity to improve cost structure.

  • Develop a capability to assure the definition, development, and maintenance of Windstream data and information architecture standards and principles; set data architecture standards, methodologies, and requirements to strengthen the network effect of sharing data across the enterprise.

  • Define and develop a strategy for the design, deployment, utilization, and enhancement of existing and future Big Data technologies and analytics platforms; mobilize a team to plan and recommend data hardware, systems management software and firmware.

  • Collaborate with industry analysts, software vendors, outsourced software development providers and internal stakeholders (when necessary) to build a holistic view of Windstream’s data assets and architectures.

  • Have a working level understanding of each IT enterprise architecture domain, while also having deep subject matter expertise within the data/information domain, and the ability to communicate its role and importance to others in the Strategy and Architecture tower, the rest of IT, and the broader Windstream business community.

  • Assess high-impact opportunities for the business and partner with other leaders across the organization to understand their needs and goals.

  • Provide guidance and support to business leaders and stakeholders on how best to harness available data in support of critical business needs and goals.


    Preferred Experience

  • Experience with the approaches and challenges for standing up an Analytics organization at varying maturities

  • Experience designing and implementing Enterprise Data Warehouses (EDW) and related technologies

  • Experience or technical knowledge of Hadoop, Hive and related technologies (Cloudera or Hortonworks preferred)

  • Experience with Databases such as Mongo, MySQL, Oracle, Druid, Casandra

  • Experience with application level software such as Grafana, Airflow, ELK Stack, Helm

  • Experience with data integration and streaming tools used for both EDW’s and Hadoop

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), including readiness, provisioning, security, and governance preferred (but not required)

  • Effectively deals with a multitude of ambiguity by confidently walking through an undefined situation and drawing out key requirements and political constraints

  • Telecom Experience preferred (but not required)

  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

  • Ability to influence and advocate change at all levels of the company

  • Experience and knowledge in data transformation, ETL methodologies, and data warehouse/data lake architectures

  • Significant knowledge of designing, developing and utilizing big data tools and frameworks to maintain, improve, clean, and manipulate data

  • Experience with end to end design through implementation delivery life cycle working within a Scrum framework

  • Experience in working with outsourced resources and managed services contracts

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements– Degree

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
