THE COMMUNITY:
The county seat of Phillips County, Holyoke (pop. 2,200) is located on the golden plains of northeastern Colorado, approximately 2½ hours NE of Denver International Airport and near the Nebraska border. Holyoke is home to the Holyoke High School Dragons and is truly a “City of Pride and Progress.” The town offers an airport, indoor swimming pool, 9- and 18-hole golf courses, ball fields, skateboard park, tennis courts, fishing ponds, parks, camping facilities, motels, movie theater, numerous churches, and a variety of restaurants. It’s also home to the Phillips County Historical Society Museum, the County Fair, and two buildings on the historical register – The Burge Hotel and the Heginbotham Library.
Ballyneal Golf Club is known for its minimalist style of play that harkens to the traditions of the game by offering an “inland links” golf experience. It is Golfweek’s #4 ranked “modern course” as well as a Golf Digest Top 50 course in the US, and Top 100 course in the World.
Agriculture is the main economic force, with excellent dry land and irrigated cropland to grow wheat, corn, dry edible beans, and alfalfa. You’ll also find several fine livestock and feedlot operations. For those interested in productive farming and ranching land for pheasant hunting, Phillips County has over 30,000 acres of walk-in access land.
If you would enjoy a safe, quiet community away from the busy city life, then Holyoke might be the place for you.
