Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees operations of the Simulation Center including coordinating and scheduling the use of the Center by all Health Science programs.
  • Provides orientation and training to Simulation Center users regarding behavioral expectations, performance standards, equipment operation, policies, procedures, and appropriate safety measures.
  • Leads the integration of simulation and instructional technologies throughout the Health Science programs. Mentors faculty, clinicians, and staff in the design of curriculum involving clinical simulation and ensures instruction is consistent with national professional standards for clinical practice.
  • Designs, implements, evaluates, and standardizes educational programs for faculty and staff development in the use of clinical simulation, debriefing, and assessment. Develops and maintains the policy and procedure manual for the Simulation Center.
  • Oversees collecting data on learning outcomes for simulation exercises and collaborations with faculty and staff on disseminating findings. Institutes continuous quality improvement strategies for simulation program improvement and facilitates comprehensive evaluations of the Simulation Center to promote growth and development.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff in reporting of program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, external meetings, educational concerns, and student and staff successes.
  • Prepares and submits reports and budget recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Creates and maintains annual Simulation Center budget, and is responsible for Simulation Center inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Leads the integration of simulation and instructional technologies throughout the Health Science programs. Mentors faculty, clinicians, and staff in the design of curriculum involving clinical simulation and ensures instruction is consistent with national professional standards for clinical practice.
  • Supervises staff. Manages scheduling, assigns projects, and coordinates staff collaboration with faculty. Conducts orientation for new staff and completes regular staff evaluations.
  • Manages all simulation technology. Identifies and implements solutions to problems related to simulation equipment, computer hardware and software. Responsible for the maintenance of simulation center, manikins and equipment.
  • Oversees technical support, set-up and break down of the simulation labs. Operates computer hardware and audio-video recording systems and simulation equipment with the ability to follow medical aspects of scenario and make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions. Oversees hiring and scheduling of simulation patients when applicable.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment as required or initiates repairs for equipment under warranty. Communicates with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates and technology changes.
  • Creates and builds strategic external partnerships and seeks inter-professional opportunities to enhance simulation. Provides leadership with responsibility, accountability, efficiency, integrity-based communication, problem solving, and team building with internal and external constituencies.
  • Oversees, participates in, and contributes to a safe learning environment, keeps current with safety regulations, provides training and enforcement of safety regulation policies and procedures; inspects and maintain safety equipment; ensures safe storage, collection and safe disposal of hazardous waste/materials, including medications.
  • Conducts and participates in tours of the Simulation Center.
  • Consults on clinical simulation development, design, and curriculum integration for healthcare professional agencies and clinical agencies.
Knowledge

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Understanding of state and college requirements regarding immunizations.
  • Knowledge in the EMSP area and related clinic/lab activities and equipment.
  • Knowledge of online applications and programs such as Blackboard.
  • Safety standards and practices used in lab/classroom settings.
Skills

  • Ability to run technology associated with Healthcare Simulation Center.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule including occasional evenings and weekends, and wearing a pager as required.

  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

  • Providing assistance to students and instructors in a clinical/lab environment.
  • Promoting and ensuring safe lab/clinical practices.
  • Researching, evaluating, and recommending new lab equipment and materials.
Technology Skills

  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Knowledge of Laerdal or similar equipment and KBPort Audio Visual system in simulation.
Required Work Experience

  • Three years teaching in nursing or related health field.
  • Three years experience in health sciences simulation.
Preferred Work Experience

  • Experience with multi-disciplinary simulation -based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety and implementation of innovative simulation-based education and training programs.
  • Curriculum development and assessment of adult learner experiences.
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting, including any healthcare management experience and leadership role.
  • Experience with Laerdal or similar equipment.
  • Experience working with INACSL Simulation Design Templates.
Required Education

  • Master’s degree or higher in Nursing or related health field from a regionally accredited institution.
Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE).
  • Knowledgeable with simulation center accreditation.
Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment as well as clinical/lab setting.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 30 pounds.
Safety

  • Supervise safe operation of unit. Facilitate safety inspections. Take reasonable and prudent actions to eliminate identified hazards. Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and foster a workplace safety culture.
