Project Solutions Inc. is seeking a qualified construction manager for an exciting opportunity for Kennecott Phase 3 Mill Building Stabilization project in Upper Mill Building, Kennecott Mines site, Wrangell St Elias National Park and Preserve.

This project consists of the stabilization of the Kennecott Mines National Historic Landmark Mill Building, a fourteen-story timber frame structure. Numerous rehabilitation campaigns have occurred at the mill building over 5 Construction Management (CM) Scope of Services (SOS) Template Date: 4-10-18 | Page 2 of 9 the years. This project is Phase III of the recent rehabilitation efforts. Phase I and Phase II stabilized levels 1 through 7 as well as installed a fire detection and notification system. This project will stabilize the upper levels of the mill building. The work includes selective replacement of deteriorated heavy timber wood columns, beams and floor structures, leveling of remnant ore in historic ore bin to install structural scaffold, removal and reinstallation of horizontal siding following stud replacement, construction of new heavy timber frame and roof, and the partial demolition and reconstruction of a timber feature on the exterior of the building called the high grade ore chute.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Protection of the building, landscaping and site features from construction-related damage.
  • Abatement and lawful disposal of any hazardous materials necessitated by the Work.
  • Provide care to all work performed on facilities to respect and preserve of both natural and cultural resources.
  • Arrange, attend and facilitate a variety of meetings, including weekly meetings at the project site.
  • Document issues encountered and problems experienced with the construction contractor.
  • Review contractor’s baseline and progress schedules
  • Inspect the work of the construction contractor for progress, workmanship, quality and conformance with contract documents, applicable building codes and safety standards .
  • The construction manager shall have no authority to: Accept or reject construction work, Authorize changes to the terms and conditions of the construction contract, Instruct or make recommendations to the construction contractor.

Required education, knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of the fundamental construction principles, concepts and practices

  • OSHA 30 required

  • National Historic Landmarks performing restoration/rehabilitation work is a major part of this project and requires performing inspections from scaffolding and roof tops on a daily basis.

  • Ability to work with multiple crews

  • Demolition of existing roofing membranes and insulation and preparation of roof deck to receive repairs to the sheathing, supplemental nailing, new insulation and new modified-bitumen roofing system.

  • Abatement and lawful disposal of hazardous materials including; Bulk Asbestos and Lead-Based Paint.

  • Repair of deteriorated and/or decayed wood components which may include wood siding and logs.Experience with cultural and ancient artifact preservation required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of site planning, building design and construction means, methods and codes, scheduling, material and labor cost estimating sufficient to evaluate general compliance environmental health, safety and protection requirements.

  • Average agility and dexterity. Duties will include moderate walking over rough, uneven or slippery surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders or similar activities, recurring lifting of moderately heave objects less than 50 lbs. and regular visits to construction sites.

  • Must pass a pre-employment background check
  • Minimum 8 years’ related experience
  • Valid driver’s license
