Intrepid Direct Insurance is looking to add to its dynamic team. The Underwriting Vice President position is a perfect fit for an insurance professional with a technical background, management experience and knowledge who likes to collaborate. Intrepid is growing quickly and we need a dynamic, self-starter who is excited about shaping this role to meet the evolving needs of the Underwriting Department. You will explore the possibility of new insurance products, new business segments, manage a team(s), leading projects, analyze and develop strategy on available data for the group, manage subject matter expertise to the underwriting team, and build high-level underwriting philosophy.
REPORTS TO: CHIEF UNDERWRITING OFFICER
YOUR ROLE MAY INCLUDE
- Analysis of data on the book or segments to improve underwriting decision making
- Lead product development and filings
- Work closely with all departments, including actuarial, client success, marketing, IT, and claims teams
- Handle referrals per letter of authority in designated portfolios
- Review and own underwriting processes
- Supervise portfolios
- Lead underwriting strategy
- Research territorial trends and guide team
- Support chief underwriting officer on projects
- Provide support as an underwriting resource on CP, GL, CA, UMB and WC lines of business
- Point person for process improvement
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS
- Interacts continuously with all levels of employees of various departments
- Must exhibit professional behavior at all times while representing the company
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Underwriting experience – Minimum of 20 years as a company underwriter, supervisor, and/or product specialist
- Supervisory experience – Minimum of 7 years supervising underwriting staff
- Has underwritten new and renewal business with success in achieving growth and profitability
- Strong background using data analysis to guide underwriting philosophy and decisions
- Multi-line background including Property, Liability, Automobile, Umbrella, WC, and BOPs
- Knowledge underwriting “Main Street” classes of business
- Build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication
- Experience with filings and developing new products
- Working within a direct operation a plus
