What We’re Looking For:
This person will be responsible for strategic corporate communications, global media relations and developing and implementing innovative communications strategies that drive global awareness in support of the Company’s mission and business strategy. In addition, this individual will be responsible for developing a compelling, global thought leadership strategy and executive communications platform.
The ideal candidate will bring a global company perspective, exceptional writing and communication skills, media relations experience and strong leadership and interpersonal skills to the role. He/she will be a change agent within the global communications and branding organization and must have demonstrated success leading a team with a focus on career development and growth. He/she should have a track record of serving as a trusted communications advisor to C-suite executives.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and execute a powerful, creative and high-impact corporate communications and executive communications strategy that supports Wiley’s business goals and strong culture while enhancing the image and reputation of the company across all audiences
- Develop a best-in-class executive communications platform and narrative
- Launch a powerful thought leadership strategy that supports the Wiley mission, vision and strategy
- Lead and develop global media relations team that will deliver outstanding results across the business through strategic storytelling across all audiences and business units (Americas, APAC and EMEA)
- Work closely with and align with key stakeholders and leaders on dedicated, pro-active communications strategies including business unit marketing leadership, Government Affairs, Investor Relations and Human Resources
- Manage crisis communications and reputation management
- Leverage opportunities around key corporate and business events such as earnings, deals, and company milestones to tell the Wiley story
- Provide strategic direction for and oversight of content for wiley.com and the enterprise social media strategy to ensure overall effectiveness in utilization as important communications vehicles of the company
- Adept at leveraging social and digital platforms for communications goals as well as issues management
- Leverage digital innovation to deepen customer engagement
- Develop solutions to ever-changing social channel requirements and updates
- Evaluate, ongoing, social channels as relevant to the brand audience and goals
- Prioritize and manage Communications budgets
Role Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, mass media, information technology and/or communications is ideal; graduate degree preferred
- 15+ years of successfully managing strategic communications programs and teams
- Demonstrated experience working with and advising executive leadership
- Proven success leading creative media relations campaigns globally
- Deep public and media relations experience, ideally with an early foundation in agency experience or in-house communications team
- Proven track record of success in managing crisis communications/issues/ and financial events appropriately
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Ability to manage external agencies/vendors.
- Familiarity with Yammer and corporate internal social networks and platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills.
- Proven track record with thought leadership campaign management
- Outstanding judgment, intuition, self-starter/strong initiative, and quick learner
- Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate company and team needs
- Excellent organization and project management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects to budget and schedule
- Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships with all facets of the organization to develop and execute plans, leveraging various teams across the organization
- Fortune 500 experience in Crisis Mgmt., Executive and Corporate Communications
- Leading a team of Communication professionals
- Comms experience in a B2B environment
