Reporting to the Executive Director, the Sustainability & Development Director will be responsible for creating and implementing WIN’s overall development plan, resulting in long-term growth for WIN programming. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned fundraising professional with a proven track record in garnering public contracts, foundation grants, as well as individual donations and corporate investments. As WIN has a strong history of successful foundation fundraising, with 85%-100% proposals funded annually for 14 years, our Sustainability & Development Director will be responsible for maintaining and growing these long-term foundation relationships, while building out our nascent individual giving and major gifts efforts. They will also leverage our new relationship with DMH and other public funders to underwrite and expand our ability to support families at risk for trauma in changing their futures and their communities. A strong leader and communicator, as well as a self-starter, the ideal candidate will be comfortable prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines, and leading in a fast-paced environment where expectations are high and strategic thinking, strong writing skills, and attention to detail are a must.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute WIN’s long-term and annual fundraising strategies to attain a balanced, sustainable portfolio of foundation grants, public contracts, and individual and corporate donors;
- Design, manage, and oversee all aspects of fundraising campaigns, including special event production, online campaigns, mailings, tracking, acknowledgments, etc.;
- Develop annual strategic communications, fundraising, and grants calendar, ensuring timely and thoughtful communications, campaign roll-outs, grant proposals, and reporting;
- Proactively cultivate and steward relationships with major donors and prospects through timely, personalized, and strategic communications, while further developing WIN’s individual, major gifts, and corporate giving programs to create an ever-growing, sustained donor base;
- Develop proposals and reports for WIN’s long-term foundation funders, while researching and developing relationships with foundations new to WIN’s work;
- Work closely with WIN ED and Innovation 2 Director to seek and secure new public funding opportunities, as well as leverage our new relationship with DMH to expand current contracts;
- Work closely with the WIN Board to enhance the success of the WIN Board Development Committee and event-specific committees—while stewarding board relationships.
- Work closely with finance staff to ensure fundraising efforts align with WIN budget objectives and meet financial reporting obligations to foundations;
- Work closely with WIN’s Communications & Media staff to ensure communications and social media align with sustainability and fundraising goals;
- Maintain fundraising calendar and progress reporting using our online NEON system (must have the ability to learn NEON system if not already familiar);
- Other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in communications, fundraising, and grant writing;
- 5 or more years as a director of development for nonprofit agencies;
- Bachelors degree mandatory; master’s preferred;
- Strong writing, editing & proofreading, including thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- High-energy, friendly, organized, and very detail-oriented;
- Ability to juggle multiple projects with superb accuracy;
- Ability to learn NEON data system a must;
- Strong sense of urgency and problem-solving skills;
- Professional, resourceful, tactful style with the ability to respond immediately and appropriately in different contexts;
- Ability to work very independently and as a team player;
- Deep passion for WIN’s mission.
Salary: $100,000-120,000, commensurate with experience.
