Boral North America has an exciting new opportunity in our Building Product division for a Plant Manager to lead our Latta SC Plant!
The Plant Manager is responsible for the functional oversight of all production facility activities. Key areas of accountability include the pouring, pulling and packaging of stone products and the maintenance of the equipment necessary to perform these tasks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Comply with Boral Safety Policies and Procedures
- Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility
- Direct shift production team in all aspects of safety, quality, adherence to production schedule, labor efficiency, waste management and cost.
- Improve standards and manufacturing quality. Work closely with QC and QA departments to ensure product quality based on conformance to specification for stone manufacturing plants.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and timely repair of all production equipment.
- Be pro-active in maintaining safety measures for all production employees. Institute Safety Committee.
- Oversee the daily cleaning of all machinery and floor area.
- Be directly accountable to VP of Manufacturing and Operations and indirectly report to General Manager or designee of local operations.
- Work closely with Purchasing Manager, Engineering, Production and other key departments.
- Identify safety and ergonomics opportunities and improved process control. Engage manufacturing leadership and engineering team for support as required.
- Assist in the hiring of all new production employees.
- Evaluate all plant employees annually.
- Make sure all raw materials are in good supply (in conjunction with Purchasing Mgr.).
- Ensure accurate reporting of produced goods from all shifts to Inventory Manager.
- Aggressively address quality issues that arise and educate supervisors on remedies. Utilize Lean Manufacturing concepts to improve labor efficiency.
- Utilize “Six Sigma” or related skills statistical process control skills to initiate process improvements.
- Optimize existing processes to improve plant efficiencies.
- Support preventative maintenance initiatives to optimize machine uptime.
- Troubleshoot and resolve process issues as they occur.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures with support of engineering team.
- Support development of Job Safety Analysis or Job Hazard Analysis for production and Maintenance Personnel.
- Support development of key indicators and metrics that will ultimately tie to plant efficiencies.
- Create reporting format to communicate results to plant associates.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Excellent organizational and management of people skills
- Working knowledge of production equipment and machinery
- Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety requirements
- Good verbal communication and command of basic math functions
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
· Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
· Prolong standing on concrete or in stationary position for up to eight hours per work day
· Complete repetitive movements
· Moderate physical effort required
· Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)
· Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
· Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
· Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders
· Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
