Overview:[
Combining a broad knowledge of the educational and social-emotional needs of early adolescents with a strong commitment to collaboration and teamwork, the Head of Middle School directs all administrative and educational activities of the Middle School including student admission, parent communication, curriculum development and faculty hiring and retention. The Head of Middle School leads efforts to recruit and select qualified faculty of superior strength and intellect, champions academic initiatives that promote academic excellence, and implements faculty professional development and evaluation programs that sustain the culture of innovation, intellectual curiosity and academic excellence that Kinkaid is known for.
The Kinkaid Middle School provides a rigorous, age-appropriate academic, arts, and athletics experience for over 440 students in grades 5 through 8. Our experienced and dedicated faculty and staff, of nearly 80, serve not only as instructors, but also as coaches, mentors, and role models.
As a member of the school’s senior Administrative Committee, the Head of Middle School collaborates closely with fellow administrators including the Head of Lower School, Head of Upper School, Director of Athletics, Director of Visual and Performing Arts and Director of Technology to ensure the students’ balanced growth in the competing demands at a school with high expectations of students, both inside and outside the classroom.
]Responsibilities:
The Head of Middle also works with the Head of School and the Director of Advancement to develop and nurture cordial relationships with Kinkaid’s alumni network and generous donor base. As such, the Head of Middle School assists with the development of a vision for the Middle School, and actively participates in the logistical, intellectual and administrative fulfillment of this vision. In addition to supervisory responsibility of all divisional faculty and staff, the following positions also report directly to the Head of Middle School: Assistant Head of Middle School, Administrative Assistant, Registrar, Counselor, Learning Specialist, Instructional Coach, Grade Level Deans, and Department Chairs.
The Head of Middle School sets the tone for the Middle School and is ultimately responsible for communicating effectively with parents, for the appropriate administration of student discipline and academic issues, for nurturing the intellectual and emotional development of middle school students and for fostering a balanced approach to their education.
Qualifications:
The position requires:
- An advanced degree with a minimum of ten years of experience including five years of leadership experience, preferably at a private school.
- Experience as a middle school educator/leader.
- A collegial, energetic, and engaging manner.
- Proven ability to collaborate with fellow administrators.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- In depth knowledge of the development of middle-school students.
- A track record of academic excellence.
- Willingness to exemplify Kinkaid’s four core values of honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness in interactions with all members of the community.
