For over 100 years the YWCA of Central Virginia has been serving the women, children, and families of Central Virginia. Founded in 1912 by a dedicated group of women, who had incidentally been told that creating an organization for women and by women would never fly, the YWCA of Central Virginia has grown and adapted to meet the varying needs of the communities we serve.

YWCA of Central Virginia serves seven counties and one city, an area of 4,400 square miles with a population of over 400,000 community members. We currently host three key direct service programs: Domestic Violence Prevention Program, Sexual Assault Response Program, and Town Center Women’s Residential Housing Program.

Position Description: *
*The YWCA of Central Virginia is seeking a team member to focus on our rural domestic violence shelter and related prevention programming. This person will undertake a variety of administration and program management tasks. The candidate will provide operational expertise for our Frannie’s House emergency shelter, a part of our overall Domestic Violence Prevention Program (DVPP), which includes leading shelter operations and programing such as support groups and court advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. They will also help in planning, implementing, and launching prevention-focused programs for our rural service areas. The ideal candidate will be organized and detail-oriented, comfortable working with a large amount of independence, and focused on improving the lives of women and girls in our community through the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women. The Shelter & Prevention Manager reports to the YWCA Director of Programs/DVPP Director but will also work with other key members of the YWCA team including the Chief Executive Officer, Communications and Development Manager, and Sexual Assault Response Program/SARP Manager. The YWCA is moving forward to continue our mission, and we need a member of our team that will focus on providing key supports to our seven-county rural communities so that the YWCA can continue to serve the women, girls, and families of Central Virginia in the years and decades to come.

This is a 100% grant-funded position. Although the grant is expected to be continued, sometimes grant funding will be relinquished from the grantor with little to short notice. If that would occur, your employment under the grant would be terminated. However, you should be aware that your employment as a staff employee of the YWCA of Central Virginia is considered to be at-will and may be terminated by you or the YWCA at any time regardless of the end date of the grant.

Areas of Responsibility
- Shelter Operations & Shelter Human Services(35%)
- Lead marketing and outreach programs in our rural service area to provide the community with key information on all of the YWCA’s programs and educational opportunities that both Eliminate Racism and Empower Women, not just through our Victim Services programs.
- Supervise Frannie’s House shelter staff, volunteers, and interns using a performance management process that includes monitoring performance.
- Hold periodic staff meetings to discuss general information relating to program operations, as well as to review the status of clients in-residence and to develop strategies for working with them.
- Coordinate in-service training for staff and volunteers, as well as coordinate opportunities for attendance at conferences and other workshops to increase professional development.
- Develop and implement staff and volunteer schedules for Frannie’s House.
- Ensure all personnel files and documentation for both paid staff and volunteers are up-to-date and correct with the Director of Finance and Human Resources.
- Attend YWCA, Domestic Violence Prevention Program, and other meetings as scheduled. Note – these meetings may be located within the City of Lynchburg. Prepare and provide regular reports to the Chief Executive Officer, Director of Programs/DVPP Director, Director of Finance and Human Resources, as well as other key staff.

- Prevention & Shelter Program Management (40%)
- Develop and/or execute activities that provide prevention education to children and adults in our service area.
- Serve as an on-call staff member with a focus on providing services to our rural localities and clients.
- Determine the acceptance of clients for residency in the program, at times in conjunction with staff. Perform and/or monitor case management of program clients including intake and orientation for new clients; create and/or monitor client individual plans. Develop and execute activities that contribute to the growth and development of victims of violence and their children.
- Provide accurate data collection, monitoring, and reporting for activities occurring in our rural shelter and prevention programs including reviewing client files for accuracy and completeness; maintain accurate statistical records of client services and interactions; assisting and/or spearheading the preparation of progress reports to funding bodies; participating and coordinating ongoing program assessment for overall effectiveness. Monitor, maintain, and provide continuous improvement for house-management systems including any technological integration with electronic files, cloud storage, and the community HMIS system software.
- Provide crisis intervention services to clients on-staff or offsite; provide crisis intervention direction to staff when on call.
- Provide or arrange for transportation for clients to scheduled appointments and activities when walking or using other transportation methods is not an option.
- Participate in key coalition and collaborative groups and boards as requested representing the YWCA and the Domestic Violence Prevention Program
- Program Financial Planning and Development (10%)
- Work with the Chief Executive Officer and Communications & Development Manager on program-related sponsorships, grants and donations/ contributions.
- Provide the Director of Programs/DVPP Director with program-related annual budget requests.
- Keep Director of Programs/DVPP Director apprised of ongoing program-related budget issues.
- Manage program budget and resources in a responsible manner once funding is obtained.
- Serve on specific fundraising event committees as appropriate.
- Serve as a fiduciary for any cash-on-hand at the Frannie’s House shelter
- Domestic Violence Marketing and Communications (10%)
- Represent the YWCA of Central Virginia at community activities to enhance the organization’s community profile and share information on the full organization, DVPP, Frannie’s House, and DV prevention programs
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, communities of faith, the media, fundiners, and other agencies.
- Assist the Communications & Development Manager with developing and preparing marketing materials for our rural service areas.
- Conduct program-related presentations to community organizations when needed.
