Director Financial Data and Analytics

JOB DESCRIPTION
Robert Half is seeking a Director Financial Data and Analytics and this role leads the Global Enterprise Finance and Accounting Data & Analytics program, which manages financial information and provides decision support, with significant influence to executive leadership including the CFO, CEO, COO, Operational Presidents, Regional Managing Directors, and others within the Finance, Sales and Accounting leadership structure.
The Enterprise Finance and Accounting Data & Analytics team is responsible for three primary functions:
Data Governance: Ownership of the documentation supporting our enterprise level foundational data models, business data glossaries and semantic models. Facilitation of the appropriate periodic business assessment of the data model. This includes working with executive leadership to understand key performance indicators and determining how such indicators can be measured in our data. This also includes educating and influencing executive leadership as to the limitations and opportunities of our data. Business Intelligence Development: Research into new reporting technologies, full comprehension of our data sources and data governance models and innovation. This team partners with business users to continuously improve our consumption of data, including simplifying, automating, reducing redundancies and connecting people and teams with similar needs. Implementation of new Batch production & maintenance processes along with certification: Establishing procedures for producing, approving and distributing operational reports to RHI Corporate Staffing business teams, Field Management and individual producers. This includes reconciliation of transactional data interfacing to/from the Staffing and Protiviti reporting environments, maintenance of the hierarchies, and researching and servicing customer inquiries.
Specific responsibilities include:
Govern Financial Data
- Owns, maintains, updates, and builds strategic global data governance program across all LOBs and Segments, including the selection of appropriate metrics and KPIs to support business decision making. This requires substantial cross-functional collaboration with teams throughout corporate services and the field, including but not limited to multiple IT teams, Business Systems, other Data & Analytics teams embedded in functional verticals, Business owners at the Director, VP and SVP level throughout corporate services. In addition, building and maintaining the data governance program requires in depth business acumen to new selling strategies in the field and this role will have high interaction with senior executive field leadership.
- Establishes and monitors effective data analytics control environment, as the accounting and finance data is highly sensitive and subject to multiple regulatory rules such as SEC restrictions.
- Establishes, monitors and maintains data governance procedures and controls with focus on continuous improvement and maturity of the department and enterprise level programs, including updating of metrics and KPIs in response to changing business strategy, tracking industry level metrics and non-standard metrics, and annual realignment of data governance strategy with stakeholders.
Talent Management
- Engages proactively in professional development of direct reports and ensures that direct reports do the same with their respective teams.
- Develops organization design plans including succession planning, reporting structures, talent gaps and priorities for next generation leaders and employees.
- Ensures innovation and process improvement is rewarded, and part of the talent management and performance cycle.
Create Management Information
- Both directly and indirectly oversees teams responsible for the production of management information. Sets policy with respect to the production of management data, including global ownership of the Accounting and Finance data glossary and semantic models. Ensures the department appropriately prioritizes analytic requests, and limits ad hoc requests to non-standard data. Sets department policy with respect to continuous improvement of the production of data, including ongoing culling of push reports, and matching of production data with similar data in other departments to reduce redundancy. Exercises significant influence with cross-functional leadership where additional teams also produce information to ensure consistency in approach and accuracy in reported information. Given the dependencies on upstream systems/departments, this position influences resources and efforts across several departments to ensure timely response to analytic requests.
- Steers the department toward structured questioning to understand how data will be used, studies stakeholder needs over time to ensure the department can be more proactive and works toward a central analytics program to address requests.
- Ensures that all financial reporting systems are optimized for both compliance and operational efficiency. Operationalizes changes to data & analytics systems, including initiating configuration changes and leading change management initiatives in response to underlying data source changes.
Provide Decision Support
- Establishes strong collaborative working relationship with the Director, FP&A, and other Directors and Leadership within Finance & Accounting to provide expert analysis and response to inquiries from senior executive management.
- Manages teams against overall long-term strategic plans for the department. Develops in-depth knowledge of the company, competitive landscape, trends and economic and social environment of the organization.
Projects & Innovation
- Provides leadership in approved and ad-hoc analytics projects. Continuous focus on business process improvement and innovation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
- Expert understanding of Data Analysis and Business Intelligence
- 10+ years data analytics experience including 5+ years progressive managerial experience required. Expert experience in finance, management reporting, and/or business systems, in a large, dynamic company. Professional services industry experience preferred. General Accounting knowledge required.
- Expert experience translating customer conceptual business needs and objectives into business solutions with formalized, comprehensive business requirements documents
- Expert experience in a delivery management capacity of the implementation and enhancement of large-scale ERP and/or business intelligence and reporting applications, through the entire life cycle (requirements, user acceptance testing, conversion, deployment, change management, etc.)
- Excellent planning, organization, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills:
- Expert leadership/mentoring abilities
- Excellent verbal and written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present information to all levels of an organization including senior executive leadership.
- Expert financial aptitude, analytical/critical-thinking ability is essential; sound judgment. Excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and initiatives with a high sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Able to adapt and maintain effectiveness and flexibility while experiencing changes in work task or the work environment.
- Expert understanding of how business units work together; ability to navigate across units and influence key stakeholders.
- Expert ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate with business customers and cross functional team members within the global enterprise
- Able to adhere to corporate policies and procedures, legal compliance and within RHI standards of ethics.
- Periodic attendance to relevant trade shows or events, such as Workday Rising or Domopalooza. Periodic training on new technologies, new methods for organizing big data, etc.:
- Expert knowledge of enterprise accounting applications (Workday Financials, Workday HCM, Workday Payroll, PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP). Experience with CRM applications a plus.
- Expert knowledge of BI platforms and architecture, (relational warehouses, multi-dimensional cubes, data marts, meta data layers, and ETL tools), significant Domo experience preferred.
- Expert experience with analytics and report writer tools such as Business Objects, or Cognos.
- Expert ability to develop and run complex queries (using tools such as SQL+, Crystal, or MS Access) required; SQL preferred
- Ability to solve complex problems, exercise logic and sound judgment, analyze and interpret data and details.
- Ability to think strategically, formulate solutions and execute decisions.
- Ability to grasp new concepts, learn quickly, and apply learning.
- Ability to establish work plans, manage projects to budgets and delivery dates, and implement change.
