POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Project Manager (APM) will participate in the planning and execution of major projects supporting 2022 goals of the Department of Defense (DoD) Account Team. Works closely with GM&M division SMEs, cross-functional SMEs and external consultants. APMs are generally responsible for project management and team management aspects of small projects or phases of a larger project at the direction of a Program Director (Management). APMs play a variety of project support and team leadership roles while developing the skills and experience necessary to become a Project Manager. APMs work with Management to coordinate activities of the project team, resolve pending issues and/or risks, manage budget, identify changes to scope, participate in project planning or re-planning efforts, and maintain portions of the project schedule as required to ensure timely completion of project. They must be familiar with project objectives, approach, and scope, as well as the role and function of each team member, in order to effectively coordinate the activities of the team and assist Management. Regular, frequent communication, either verbal or written, with Management regarding status of the project, completion of assigned tasks, and availability for additional work items, are absolutely essential. Flexibility is key success factor as may also act as an individual contributor on the project or work on special projects as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Works with Management to define project scope and objectives. Develops preliminary project plan and design, determines and secures necessary resources and manages meeting notes and action items.

Assigns individual responsibilities by obtaining commitment from team members on project timelines and acts as a resource for project team members.

Responsible for the delivery and success of assigned projects. Leads meetings with project team to assess status and resolves and escalates issues as they come up. Optimizes project results within business and time constraints.

Reviews and tracks status of project and deliverables and provides project updates and ongoing cost analysis to IS and business line management.

Assists management with developing cost estimates and managing the budget throughout the project.

Works on special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree.

Requires a minimum of 4-5 years of experience in information systems operations environment; 2-3 years project management experience preferred.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project required

Ability to plan and manage time and resources, establish priorities, and meet agreed upon goals.

Knowledge of and/or experience in software development methodology preferred

Experience in project situations requiring knowledge of scope, cost, and schedule management

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and openly communicate status, issues/risks, and challenges presented to project, as well as ability to create clear and concise presentations

Ability to produce executive-level status reporting preferred

Experience in client-facing or client-serving situations preferred
