Responsible for providing strategic leadership to the construction department by working with the Global Business Function Head Construction located in Germany, the Sr. Vice President LEA and other management of LEA to establish long-range goals, strategies, and plans.

]Responsibilities:

The Vice President Construction shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Direct all aspects of construction related topics, especially construction proposals, construction cost estimates, construction execution strategies, construction input for project planning, subcontracting of construction subcontractors, module yards and piping pre-fabrication workshops and all field construction. Challenge the team to continuously improve and to find opportunities to add value within the project execution environment.
  • Responsible for the performance of the construction department and all construction efforts in project proposal and execution phases, in accordance with construction execution strategy/plan, specifications, and contract documents, providing and controlling the labor, material, equipment, and subcontractors to accomplish the work.
  • Ensure all aspects of construction operations are executed as company policy dictates with regards to cost, quality, safety, schedule, OSHA, and client specifications.
  • Regularly perform pricing and competitive analysis by market, competitor and customer analysis and implement strategies to improve quality and/or reduce costs. Ensure that construction estimates are current and appropriate for the regional contract mix and execution plan.
  • Work closely with proposal management and support proposal efforts including: analyze constructability of project, define construction scope of services, define subcontracting strategy and review and approve construction cost estimates. This will include documenting all key assumptions and data included in the proposal construction estimate.
  • Accountable for the effective development of contracting strategies for all project subcontracts and respective execution. Ensure preparation of Construction Execution Strategies/Plans and approve and issue for all projects.
  • Direct workload, manpower and material planning to insure the construction objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses.
  • Manage Construction Department budget and controls expenses effectively.
  • Coordinate project construction activities with the project management team to ensure maximum collaboration and teamwork. Foster a “one team” approach.
  • Network with local construction companies and within the construction business.
  • Actively participate and support key corporate initiatives like innovation, execution, and continuous improvement.
  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Prepare monthly report on project construction process and cost against defined objectives per balanced scorecard and others.
  • Assure compliance with LEA vendor selection and Phased Gate review policy and IMS workflow.
  • Actively participate and coordinate with all global and local/regional construction organizations and attend global functions. Maintain organizational structure with established fixed counterparts for each construction discipline and encourage alignment with other entities to support a worldwide construction approach as described in the construction strategic directive.
  • Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions, and decisions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Long-term experience managing construction department in a medium to large size EPC Company.
  • Possess a broad understanding of construction engineering, construction cost estimating and construction management.
  • Effective leadership skills including conflict resolution
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks/projects.
  • Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office Software, and other Company and discipline specific software applications. Aspen Capital Cost Estimator knowledge is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with company executives, superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the company.
