Sunderstorm operates in full compliance with both state and local municipalities, and holds a state license for commercial cannabis activity at 3 locations in California – one in Emeryville, and two others in Los Angeles. Founded in 2016, we specialize in non-volatile manufacturing including: the production of cannabis infused gummies (under our brand KANHA), start-to-finish vape production (under Wind Vapes), and the production of pharmaceutical grade sublingual sprays (under the brand Sunderstorm Scientific), and packaged flower (under our brand SOLARA). Sunderstorm will depend on the Purchasing Manager to execute procurement for all non-cannabis raw ingredients, equipment, supplies, and materials related to Sunderstorm operations across all California locations, and all departments – Production – Office – Distribution – Sales. Items could range from branded merchandise, to specialized production equipment, to product labels, to bulk glucose syrup – to name a few.

This position is not just a purchasing position, but will also require a strong emphasis on inventory allocation, and shipping/receiving; they need to ensure that incoming shipments are counted and audited so that purchase orders are closed appropriately. The Purchasing Manager must work with suppliers of raw materials to source, track, and reorder items like: glucose, sugar, flavorings, and cannabis-specific production equipment like vape cartridge hardware AND also audit incoming shipments, ensure that we receive correct items, and physically unpack, organize, allocate inventory appropriately across the facility. If we did not receive what was ordered, or a shipment is short for example – it is the purchasing managers job to follow up with supplier quickly and resolve any issues via refund or otherwise.

The purchasing manager will not only be responsible for purchasing raw materials and build parts, but also monitoring on-hand inventory of said raw materials. They will also conduct and organize a cyclic stock take system in which all product groups will be counted, in a cyclic fashion (multiple times) through each month, in addition to facilitating a full stock take once per month, of every single valued item across all locations. While most purchasing will be done from a computer and/or via phone, this is not a pure desk job, and the Purchasing Manager will be expected to do any and all leg-work required by their position and responsibilities. That said, they will also be part of a highly dedicated team, and will be supported in their role.

This position is demanding, fast-paced, and requires sitting and standing for long periods of time, data entry, and working with multiple departments, managers, team members and schedules. It will also require a high attention to detail, extended periods of concentration, and professional and friendly administrative support. High level fluency with spreadsheets, inventory management, and with Microsoft Excel and Google software products is required.

Requirements

• At least 3 years purchasing/procurement experience
• California residency with valid ID is required
• Your own transportation and occasional driving is required
• Your own cell phone and laptop are required
• Detail oriented and organized
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly
• Previous purchasing, management, and/or admin experience highly preferred
• High level fluency with spreadsheets – Excel and Google/Microsoft software required
• Experience with inventory management, warehousing, accounting, or ERP a plus
• College degree required
• Some Cannabis Industry experience a plus
• Fluency in both written and spoken English
