Position Purpose

The Project Manager job family provides project planning and project management services for all departments within the organization to ensure thorough, comprehensive planning for major credit union initiatives and timely, efficient completion of projects. The primary responsibility of this position is the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and timely completion of specific projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals by utilizing our established internal project process.


Organization Role and Overall Contribution

The Project Manager I is the entry-level for Project Manager job family. This level uses established procedures, works under immediate supervision and performs assigned tasks. This level of work is routine and instructions are usually detailed and the incumbent demonstrates appropriate effectiveness for level in evaluation abilities, originality, and ingenuity.


Job Scope

Project Managers are responsible for all aspects of the assigned project over the entire project life (initiate, plan, execute, control, and close). The project manager must continually monitor and assess activities of designated projects and initiatives, communicate status to management, and respond proactively with appropriate recommendations to ensure the successful completion of goals. Project managers assistant in managing the project portfolio by participating on committees and making recommendations to move projects through each phase and make major changes to the scope, resources and duration of the project.


Expected Contributions


  • RESPONSIBILE FOR ALL ASPECTS OF THE ASSIGNED PROJECTS OVER THE ENTIRE PROJECT LIFE (INITIATE, PLAN, EXECUTE, CONTROL, CLOSE)


Key/Representative Activities:

  • Must be familiar with system scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively coordinate the activities of the project team
  • Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of project
  • Manages projects from original concept through final implementation
  • Interfaces with all areas affected by the project including end users, and vendors. Ensures adherence to quality standards and reviews project deliverables
  • Manages changes to the project scope, and project schedule, using the appropriate verification techniques in order to keep the project plan accurate, updated, reflective of authorized project changes as defined in the change management plan, and facilitate customer acceptance
  • Communicates project plan and ensures a common understanding by setting expectations in accordance with the Project Plan, in order to align the stakeholders and team members
  • Executes project plan and executes the tasks as defined in the project plan in order to achieve the project goals
  • Monitors and controls project work by measuring project performance using appropriate tools and techniques in order to monitor the progress of the project, identify and quantify any variances, perform any required corrective actions, and communicate to all stakeholders
  • Establishes project deliverables by recording detailed customer requirements, constraints, and assumptions with stakeholders in order to establish the project deliverables, using requirement-gathering techniques (e.g., planning sessions, brainstorming, focus groups) and the project charter
  • Develops project team and improve team performance by building team cohesiveness, leading, mentoring, training, and motivating in order to facilitate cooperation, ensure project efficiency, and boost morale
  • Implements approved actions and implements the approved actions and workarounds required to mitigate project risk events in order to minimize the impact of the risks on the project
  • Closes projects by ensuring a thorough post implementation process is established to ensure the results and outcomes of implemented solutions and functionality satisfy all requirements and expectations of end users

Essential Qualifications & Competencies


Minimum Education Requirements:

  • General and business knowledge equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Technology or associate’s degree with certification(s)


Level I Requirements:

  • 2-3 years professional project management experience


Competencies:

  • Candidate must have expert knowledge and a demonstrated understanding of the general interoperability of financial industry business systems and processes, as well as a current knowledge and general understanding of financial product/service advancements and operating trends
  • Candidate must have very strong written and verbal communication skills, and have demonstrated practical experience in successfully coordinating medium to large-scale business projects
  • Candidate must have effective interpersonal skills to effectively lead project teams
  • Candidate must have a strong understanding of common business software such as Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, and have a demonstrated ability to swiftly learn, use, and document a variety of complex business solutions to support assigned business unit(s) and role
  • Ability to participate as a member of a cross-departmental project team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of the general organization structure of financial institutions and business processes
  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise and perform project management tasks
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal direction
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of credit union core processing system is desirable


Level I Competencies:

  • Knows fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization
