    Summary

    Serves as Director, Office of Technology Incubation and Innovation and reports to the Director, Glenn Research Center. The incumbent manages all the activities associated with the planning and execution of selected programs led by the NASA Office of Chief Technologist (OCT) and the Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD). In addition, the incumbent serves on various boards, panels, and committees, as needed or requested; and is a member of the Directors Senior Management team.

    Responsibilities

    • Leads and oversees the Center’s discretionary investments in technology and investments associated with the Center Innovation Fund program, technology transfer and licensing, and the implementation of a full array of technology transfer activities.
    • Leads the transfer and commercialization of technology, including marketing, business and partnership development, and commercialization project and program management.
    • Leads and oversees Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Technology Transfer Research (STTR) advocacy, investments, and maturations, as well as identifying infusion opportunities for all SBIR/STTR activities.
    • Leads and oversees managing the NASA Level Two Space Technology Research Grants (STRG) Program Office; including development, implementation, and compliance with processes required to implement the program guidance.
    • Provides vital support to Center-wide efforts to build and maintain strategic partnerships with external organizations for business development based on new and emerging technologies.

    Qualifications

    Technical Qualifications:
    1. Knowledge of current and advanced technology utilized in aircraft and spacecraft, as well as their associated technical weaknesses and strengths.

    2. Ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplined, highly diverse, and sophisticated technical organization with the responsibility of facilitating domestic utilization of NASA-developed technologies and expertise by both the private and public sectors.

    3. Working knowledge (or offer clear plans to obtain the knowledge) of technology transfer processes and regulations, and demonstrated ability to effectively support and potentially lead the identification and commercialization of NASA’s research, testing, and technology opportunities from within and across the organization; and supporting partnerships.

    To qualify, candidates must have the skill and ability to perform the duties described above as demonstrated by progressively responsible supervisory/managerial experience, normally with several years at the GS-15 level or equivalent, which demonstrates clearly the ability to manage people and resources.     Candidates must possess an engineering degree, preferably an advanced degree from an accredited engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university in a closely related engineering discipline
