TITLE: Director of Program Operations

DEPARTMENT: Administration/Operations

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer/Chief Operational Officer

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Director of Program Operations is responsible for the organization’s day-to-day operating activities with primary concern for staff supervision and training; program development and implementation; and Club Member management.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

1. Oversee the implementation and delivery of operations, programs, services and activities that facilitate achievement of Youth Development Outcomes; ensure outcome measurement and data analysis to improve quality of Club operations.

2. Provide leadership and direction to Unit Directors in the management of their designated sites.

3. Ensure an environment that facilitates achievement of youth development outcomes, with overall responsibility for cleanliness, attractiveness and safety of properties and equipment.

Strategic Planning

4. Oversee identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve program effectiveness based on participation and achievement of stated goals; recommend modifications to improve program performance, as appropriate.

Board Development

5. Support board committees, as assigned.

Resource Management

6. Coordinate agency budget development; monitor and report variances in revenues and expenditures.

7. Manage administrative and operational processes.

8. Manage performance of assigned staff in achieving goals, providing technical assistance in program design, development, community relations and program operations.

9. Plan and implement a staff development and training program, to include a focus on Club and child safety.

Partnership Development

10. Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families and community organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

11. Participate in activities to maintain public trust in Club programs, services and activities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. May assist in the administration of restricted programs by overseeing program operations at each location; ensure the completion of required reports; and prepare any required interagency reports.

2. May be responsible for managing human resources programs and systems including recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintain close contact with assigned staff to provide technical assistance in matters of programming and operations; interact regularly with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and, as assigned, with the Board of Directors and its committees.

External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of five years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people and nonprofit operations management and supervision,
  • Considerable knowledge of: the mission, objectives, policies, programs and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs; and the principles and practices of nonprofit organizations

· Thorough knowledge of recreation and youth development theory.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and coordinate operations; in personnel supervision, ability to recruit and retain key personnel; and knowledge of budget management
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

· Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions with limited supervision

· Ability to deal effectively with members’ discipline problems

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, subordinates, board members, community groups, and other related agencies
