This position will design and lead efforts to strengthen data-informed decision capabilities throughout the enterprise, expanding Veritiv’s thinking about what is possible with data. It will identify and prioritize major objectives and act as a change agent/data asset champion to successfully manage the use of data to drive strategic business decisions and growth.
This position will lead and/or coordinate the efforts of analysts and data scientists with MS/PhDs supporting the commercial organization (category management, sales operations, pricing and marketing), supply chain, sales and customer service, IT, and finance. As an integral part of strategic planning process and driving operational, commercial and strategic initiatives across the organization, the leader in this role must provide updates to the CIO, SVPs and CEO of Veritiv, have high intellectual capacity and curiosity to drive the necessary rigor in the analytical process as well as being self-motivated and thrive on ambiguity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for designing and implementing an improved ecosystem around, and organizational structure to support, advanced analytics – this could include a potential overhaul or resetting of the analytics effort
- Lead the exploration and use of existing and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools/techniques, while staying aligned with short- and medium-term business priorities
- Must be able to manage, lead, and develop analysts and data scientists, as needed, and enhance Veritiv’s ability to attract and develop industry-leading data and analytics talent
- Drive predictive analytics and data modeling for the organization
- Understand the expectations of the customer functions – Commercial Excellence (Category Management, Pricing, Sales Operations, Marketing), Supply Chain, Sales and Customer Service, IT and Finance – to ensure capabilities exist to support any ad hoc projects to help them with day-to-day business issues from a data and analytics perspective
- Lead competitive intelligence activities and provide actionable insights to the business
- Ensure capabilities exist to support the recurring reports that go out to the various parts of the organization, driving productivity and efficiency
Qualifications/Knowledge & Experience:
- MS/MBA in Engineering, Mathematics, Analytics, Finance, Strategy or other related
- 10+ years of demonstrated analytical problem solving and detail analytical and project administration experience required
- Thought-leader with an ambitious vision for the innovation and use of data & analytics
- Prior leadership experience in building a data analytics ecosystem or organization strongly preferred, delivering results to shape the future of an organization
- Collaborates with leaders cross functionally to create value for the business
- Thinks strategically about issues impacting an entire enterprise consisting of multiple business segments
- Discovers new areas of opportunity that can add value and be captured with advanced analytics
- Develops innovative analytics projects throughout their life cycle from ideation through test-and-learn to operationalization and scale
- Prior experience building, leading, and coaching high-performing teams
- Proficient in statistical tools and methodologies for interpreting data and deriving actionable insights
- Demonstrated ability to create project plans that reflect the required tasks and resources to achieve project milestones
- Effective communication skills – both verbal and written – and diplomacy skills are absolute must
- Awareness and familiarity in programming languages such as SQL, python or similar languages
- Should be able to demonstrate following competencies: Analytics, Problem-Solving, Project Planning, Communication, Action oriented, & Collaboration
