Catsmo Artisan Smokehouse is seeking an exceptional canaidate to fill the role of Assistant Vice President of Operations at their Wallkill, NY location. The selected individual will work closely with the VP of Operations on a daily basis to ensure all aspects of operations are being managed, staffed and organized. The Operations assisttant will also work closely with Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Maintenance and the Production Floor Management to consistently ensure safe and efficient production requirements are meeting customer demands.

This full time position requires flexibility and dependent upon demand, shift needs, product sales and seasonality. The ideal candidate will display professional discipline, leadership and the ability to foster teamwork in a fast-pace environment.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day Operations:

Assist Vice President of Operations in every aspect of the position and more precisely but not limited to:
  • Maintaining accurate inventory of raw materials and processed food product
  • Hiring food production personnel
  • Overseeing maintenance, repair, and replacement of production equipment to ensure smooth production operations
  • Timecard processing for production employees
  • Preparing purchase orders for vendors
  • Preparing daily production planning based on weekly/daily demand

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Familiarity with food processing industry a plus
  • Must be quality minded, self-motivated, analytical and result oriented
  • Knowledge in continuous improvement and quality methodologies (ie, Lean, Six-Sigma)
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, multi-task, and manage time efficiently
  • Proficient in MS word, MS Excel, production management tools, MRP/ERP and reporting systems
  • Spanish speaking/proficiency in Spanish a plus

Catsmo’s founder, Robert Simon, has always been passionate about fishing. The idea of smoking his catch began when he would return home from fishing trips with too much fresh fish than his family could eat themselves. Over time, Robert perfected his smoking techniques and recipes and began sharing with chef friends in NYC. In time, Robert’s little garage smoking operation grew but he never changed his fundamental principles of not compromising when it came to the quality of fish he chose nor his methods.

Catsmo Artisan Smokehouse maintains this long tradition of excellence with hands-on artisanal practices of smoking that are still strictly observed. Each morning fresh salmon is delivered to Catsmo’s Catskill Mountain facility directly from the airport. All fish arrives fresh-never frozen-just hours after being pulled from the icy cold waters in which they were raised. Each fish is inspected both by sight and by smell, the only smell that passes inspection is the scent of fresh water, not the smell of fish.

In 2012, Catsmo joined forces with fine foods purveyor SOLEX Fine Foods and became Solex Catsmo. Under the leadership of Markus Draxler Catsmo Artisan Smokehouse continues to uphold the high standards and proven artisanal techniques required to produce smoked salmon that is always smooth, silky, and buttery in texture-never dry, sticky, or pasty.
