We are an established, family owned trucking company. We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated SAFETY DIRECTOR to lead and supervise our team of drivers and grow our Safety Department. The Safety Director partners with Operations and Management to maintain and excel an effective safety program while continuing to grow our fleet size. An effective Safety program will minimize accidents, injuries and risks while onboarding new drivers into the company culture and meet company, Insurance, State, and Federal requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Safety Director:
- CSA Compliance
- Manage DOT random drug and Alcohol program and program is in full compliance.
- Ensure timely renewal of all Driver qualifications (CDL license and proper endorsements, medical card and registering thereof.
- Monitor, counsel and document driver violations of any state, federal or local laws or company policies or regulations, including out of service issues or abuse of hours of service.
- Safety Education
- Accident Management
- Develop process to stay up-to-date and implement necessary changes of laws and regulations governing our industry.
- Ensure Driver files are up-to-date and maintained in accordance with DOT regulation
- Instruct Drivers regarding company and DOT regulations, penalties for infraction of rules, and safety policies and procedures, provide immediate coaching when required.
- Accident reports conduct accident investigations root cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of each action item and leverage learning across the organization for all transportation accidents involving company personnel and/or equipment.
- Over sees the screening and selection processes for evaluating potential candidates conducted by the recruiting team as well as driver retention.
- Driver Orientation, training, and development programs.
- Driver incentive programs
- Must be able to build meaningful and lasting relationships with others naturally, which will enable this person to relate with candidates in the field easily allowing easier acquisition and retention of valuable personnel in the business.
A successful Safety Director candidate will have:
- Verifiable experience in a Safety role within a transportation and logistics company
- Knowledge of all applicable Safety rules and Regulations-DOT, DMV FMCSA, Hours of Service
- Ability to make and deliver training presentations, work collaboratively with colleagues to create a result driven, team orientated environment, maintain confidentiality, make independent decisions, demonstrate excellent organizational skills, handle multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines.
- Prior Managerial and Leadership Experience
- College Degree Preferred
