Position Summary

PMA is currently seeking a project manager to lead a construction team in accordance with district and program policies and procedures for college construction bond projects in Los Angeles County. In this role, you will manage and execute the design and construction of 5 to 8 projects simultaneously, ranging in construction value and complexity from $2 million to $50 million each; plan, organize, direct, coordinate, and review project management activities with regard to local bond measures, state matching funds, construction projects, and performance reports of the project management team and the program management office; coordinate budget and schedule information with the relocation project manager; and manage and coordinate the planning and design phase of projects with all stakeholders including college user groups, district facilities staff, and PMO staff.

Work scope also includes resolving complex, project-related issues, disputes, and disagreements; following and successfully executing program quality management systems; reviewing and developing contract documents; identifying risk and creating successful risk mitigation plans; documenting and reporting all project data accurately and in a timely manner; and presenting project and college data clearly to multiple stakeholder groups.

The successful candidate will also perform and certify DSA closeout and PMO/District closeout; evaluate, assess, process, and manage change order and professional services requests in a timely manner; track project status and report on construction project delivery schedules; review and inspect the construction site offices to assess construction team performance and adherence to legal requirements; review recommended actions in project dispute resolution; and direct and assist in outreach efforts to provide college project information.


Position Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in management of multiple design and construction projects, experience within a large capital improvement program, and familiarity with relevant public codes required.

  • Valid certificate of registration as an architect by the California Architects Board, or current Professional Engineer license from the California State Board for Professional Engineers, or a valid construction manager certification credential from the Construction Manager Certification Institute preferred.

  • 2 years’ experience in educational facility construction preferred.

  • Experience utilizing BIM, LEED-certified projects, and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) or DSA construction/design processes preferred.

  • BA or BS in architecture, engineering, urban planning, construction management or a closely related field. Additional qualifying experience in excess to the minimum stated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
