    MISSOURI DEMOCRATIC PARTY
    POLITICAL DIRECTOR

    The Political Director focuses on building the Democratic base through outreach in various communities and also acts as MDP liaison between elected officials, congressional district committees, local Democratic Committees, Caucuses and Constituency groups, Coordinated
    Campaigns, and other appropriate organizations to build stronger grassroots capacities for
    Missouri Democrats. This position will be based in St. Louis, Missouri and will work closely with other MDP Senior Staff (Communications, Finance, Data, Party Affairs) and will report to the
    Executive Director with substantial involvement from the Chair of the MDP.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Working closely with MDP Executive Director and House and Senate campaign committees to recruit candidates to run for office.
    • Planning and supervising the execution of the MDP Political Outreach Program statewide and implementing a political strategy for staff, local elected leaders, county parties, allied organizations and activists.
    • Build strong relationships with elected officials, allied organizations, and state committee members.
    • Monitor statewide policy issues and work to amplify legislative efforts by elected officials.
    • Support organizing campaigns, including rallies, press events, and field operations.
    • Supervise Political Department Fellows, Interns, and staff members as applicable.
    • Develop a work plan for outreach to different constituency groups.
    • Conduct assessments of the current caucuses and constituency groups of the MDP and issue an annual report to the Executive Director.
    • Organize and conduct regular conference calls with affinity groups (i.e. labor, environmental, faith, sub-district Democratic committees, House and Senate committees, Caucuses, etc).
    • Act as an informational resource for candidates and campaign managers to familiarize them with Missouri Democratic Party practices and procedures.
    • Encourage local Democratic Committees to reach out to all appropriate organizations and individuals to publicize opportunities to get involved with their local Democratic

    Committee.

    • Attend local committee meetings and help develop local committees in areas in which they need strengthening, working with the MDP Rural Director for rural areas.
    • Assist local committees with organizing ideas and facilitate cooperative efforts among committees.
    • Help coordinate GOTV efforts by and among local committees, MDP and campaigns.
    • Assist the Communications and Party Affairs Director in developing and updating an “Issue Messengers” and “Rapid Responders” list and consistent delivery of information and messaging to candidates, partners, stakeholders, and allies.
    • Assist Communications and Party Affairs Director to organize, plan, and execute all meetings of the State Committee as required by State Party Bylaws.
    • Act as a partner to Communications and Party Affairs Director on all Delegate Selection and Presidential Nominating processes from Mass Meetings to National Convention.
    • Acts as liaison between County Chairs and the Executive Director and Chair.
    • Develops training programs for the State Party, including grassroots organizing, precinct training, County Chair, Executive Committee and candidate training sessions.

    MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS

    • At least 2 years of professional full time political experience.
    • Previous experience working with diverse constituencies, particularly in working with communities of color.
    • Ability to take feedback and criticism gracefully and use it to improve the Missouri Democratic Party.
    • Experience managing staff or interns.
    • Missouri experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Willingness and ability to work irregular hours, nights, and weekends.

    PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to do basic VAN procedures such as looking up voters, marking contact history.
    • Experience in Google Suite of tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive).
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • The ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt quickly to changing work priorities.
    • Willingness and ability to work salaried irregular hours, nights, and weekends.
