Position Details

We’re looking for a Head of Marketing to join us full time in Portland, Maine–someone passionate about all things marketing, from concept to creation, and who is detail-oriented, organized, and a great communicator.

Your goal is to develop and execute our marketing strategies and plans to drive rapid growth. Work daily to increase our opportunity pipeline through integrated marketing and demand generation programs and by amplifying the Defendify brand, product, and mission.

This is a unique chance to get in on the ground floor at a high-growth tech startup emerging as an industry thought leader and launching into new and underserved markets.

About You

We are looking for someone who knows how to create a buzz, a following, and a pipeline! A marketing leader who understands the startup scene, cares about cybersecurity and Small Business, and has previously worked in or around SaaS models. The ideal candidate:

  • Cultivates effective communication and interaction with internal and external team members to develop and execute on marketing initiatives and campaigns.

  • Has a passion for solving problems
    with a can-do attitude and who is eager to grow, learn, and tackle daily and long-term challenges.

  • Is attuned to the interplay of content, lead-generation, promotion, media, and public relations
    and works regularly in and around key concepts like MQL, SQL, SAL, churn, CAC, LTV, KPIs, and ROI.

  • Is a brand ambassador
    energized by cultivating and building brand awareness, attention, and impact, especially for Small Business and SaaS user audiences.

  • Is creative and intuitive
    , known for clever and outside-the-box thinking balanced against the realities of bandwidth, budget, and feasibility.

  • Enjoys participating in marketing and sales-related events
    , locally and nationally, including occasional travel and efforts outside standard business hours.

Experience

  • 5+ years of full-time (or equal) marketing/demand generation management experience.
  • Have been responsible for marketing campaign, strategy, budgeting, and plan development, execution, oversight, and accountability.
  • Have worked in a cross-functional team environment that includes some mix of designers, developers, marketers, sales, success, and management personnel.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and mainstream digital marketing platforms (e.g. HubSpot, Google Analytics, social media, and similar).

Responsibilities

Lead marketing efforts and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to set goals, drive brand awareness, and build demand generation. Work daily on:

  • Strategy & Planning: Set, monitor and report on team goals. Participate in the quarterly and annual planning of company objectives. Craft budgets and hiring plans. Identify opportunities to reach new market segments and expand market share.

  • Lead Generation:
    Develop marketing strategies, campaigns, promotions, and events (including email marketing, paid inclusion, webinars, and similar), aligned and integrated with ongoing sales activity and strategies.

  • Content Strategy & Development:
    Develop content strategy and participate in writing and oversight of targeted emails, blog posts, sales outreach, landing pages, and similar.

  • Campaigns & Promotions:
    Develop, manage, execute, and support promotional and outreach campaigns (i.e. marketing, re-marketing, lead-generation, lead nurturing).

  • Relationships & Opportunities:
    Develop, manage, and support key relationships with associations, influencers, partners, and vendors, including comarketing opportunities.

  • Social Media & Listening:
    Oversee social media and social listening strategy and execution, including monitoring, engagement, and representation.

  • Research & Analysis:
    Monitor, analyze, and report on industry trends, competitive landscape, and target markets to improve marketing effectiveness and lead generation.

  • Reporting & Metrics:
    Identify, monitor, and report on key marketing activities and metrics to identify engagement levels and inform recommendations and improvements.

Work daily with a small but awesome marketing team including our co-founder, marketing coordinator, designer, and interns which is also supported by external creatives and key advisors as needed. This is a flexible position open to candidates with varying levels of experience and offers long-term growth potential. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
