Urban Land Conservancy (ULC) is seeking a Director of Communications who will be responsible for strengthening the impact of Urban Land Conservancy (“ULC”) through internal and external communications, fundraising, and events. This position will report to the President and CEO.

Ideal candidates will connect with our mission, work well in ambiguity and managing change, remain grounded in the day-to-day responsibilities, and have an understanding of the communities we serve, including individuals and families living on moderate to low income, communities of color, and neighborhoods that face equity issues.

The Director of Communications will be expected to work independently and perform a wide range of duties including, but not limited to the following:

Marketing and Communications

  • Responsible for all marketing activities including content creation, messaging and outreach, and overall marketing and communications strategy
  • Design and implement public relations strategy; manage execution across owned, earned, and paid media channels
  • Manage the generation, design, distribution and maintenance of print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to: newsletters, brochures, web content, social media messaging, news releases
  • Manage and create ULC’s brand identity, brand assets and messaging to ensure consistent, quality external communications
  • Ensure there is alignment internally with ULC’s brand strategy and messaging.
  • Responsible for website maintenance, updates, content sharing and design
  • Oversee all media related communications and relationships, maintain media contacts and act as point person for all ULC media outreach

Partnerships and Collaborations

  • Support efforts related to advocacy and policy driven messaging to improve local, state, and Federal policies and legislation to better support ULC’s work
  • Work closely with third party policy advocates to ensure ULC’s mission is supported
  • Responsible for grant activities including research, writing or assisting in grant proposals and applications, grant submittals, securing contracts and budgets, and reporting
  • Represent ULC at community events and meetings as necessary, speaking on behalf of the organization related to projects, plans and overall mission
  • Participate in relevant conferences

General

  • Manage the planning and execution ULC private and public events, i.e. partner events, annual event, groundbreakings and grand openings, and ULC-led conferences and tours
  • Lead and/or facilitate special projects on an ad-hoc basis as directed by the President
  • Supervises Communications & Grants Manager

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or other related degree

Experience

  • Must have at least 7 years experience in managing a marketing, public relations, or communications team or department

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Excellent knowledge of WordPress
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to multi-task and manage priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • A commitment to maintain strict confidentiality

Requirements

  • Must pass a satisfactory background check
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and demonstrate a good work ethic
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of scheduled work hours

Compensation

  • Salary range is $80,000-$90,000 and is commensurate with depth of experience and overall qualifications
  • Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) after six months, paid life insurance, AD&D, short- and long-term disability, and paid time off
