The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks a self-motivated, results-oriented individual with the knowledge, ability and interpersonal skills required to serve as its Web Development and Applications Manager. This is a 100%/full-time (FLSA exempt) position with full University of Iowa benefits; salary is commensurate with education and experience and relevant salary market data.

Responsibilities:
Design and development of web and application solutions to meet Athletic needs including websites, intranets and e-commerce solutions.

Partner with all 24 sports, external relations, and other UI Athletics supporting units to define functional/technical specifications and offer solutions

Design, build and maintain microsites; including gameday, player feature pages, ticket sales explanation pages

Work closely with Marketing and Hawkeye Ticket Solutions (HTC) to optimize high value pages for lead generation and sales
- Utilize assigned tools and languages to implement various application aspects including, but not limited to, style sheets, markup documents, program code, and database structures.

Integration of social media content into all UI Athletics managed websites and intranets

Integration and development of point of sales systems, ticketing/merchandise sales opportunities into hawyesports.com

Performs ad hoc testing on recently developed web applications or application components.

Serve as the primary contact with website provider for weekly calls, emergency work and continued updates of site innovations

Manage, maintain and update HawkeyeSports.com, Hawkeye sports app, Athletics’ intranet and other internal unit’s websites

Maintain static content pages (staff directory, schedules, links on content pages, etc.)

Proactively find and remove old content as it becomes dated on all outfacing sites.

Provide monthly analytics reports and recommended actionable tasks based on data

Assist in evaluation of UI Athletics web/application and information systems needs/functionality.

Analyze, document, and recommend business process design for all units and other areas where applicable.

Guide and mentor junior support staff and University or Iowa student workers

Required Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Required Qualifications
-
Considerable experience (typically 3-5 years) in web and application development, or website design, and building programmatic solutions in a secure environment

Proficiency with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and familiarity with relational database design using DBMS systems such as FileMaker, MS SQL Server or Access, Oracle, MySQL.

Knowledge of current web standards (for HTML, CSS, AJAX, CMS, etc.) and demonstrated skill employing these in creating standards-compliant web pages

Proficient understanding of code versioning tools and all aspects of the lifecycle of a web application; estimating, wireframing, design, frontend and backend;

Ability to effectively communicate technical information, both orally and in writing, with other technical and non-technical staff, including peers, content providers, designers, workgroups, managers, and general customers

Working knowledge of and ability to:

Desired Qualifications

Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.

Familiarity working with Drupal 7/8, WordPress Platform and/or other Content Management Systems – Highly desirable

Knowledge of web analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Site Search, etc.) – Highly desirable

Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization techniques and strategies – Highly desirable

Familiarity with web accessibility standards including WCAG 2.0 and WAI-ARIA;

Experience utilizing tools for creating and manipulating databases (MS SQL Management Studio, dbVisualizer, etc.)

Proficiency with PHP Object Oriented Programming;

Experience with Continuous Integration tools and processes;

Experience leading teams and/or projects;

Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
