Overview

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountable for planning, directing, controlling, and administering all technical activities worldwide, including those related to: developing, improving and introducing new products worldwide (New Product Development Process Management); Developing (with Sales/Marketing input) information needed to effectively market Troy product offerings; Coordination with Sales, Marketing, Production and Purchasing to ensure timely and complete introduction of new products (New Product Commercialization Process Management); All activities related to Technical Sales Support; All Service Laboratory activities including all Microbiology, Analytical and Applications labs worldwide; Oversee Technical Information sheets and MSDS for all products; Provide support for QC methods and specifications; Working with product registration and IP department to achieve competitive advantage and enhance and protect proprietary product offerings. Responsible for the recruitment, development and retention of all technical resources worldwide. Serves as a member of the Troy Management Board.

Responsibilities

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Process owner and manager for the New Product Development and New Product Commercialization Processes worldwide
  • Together with Sales/Marketing, provide direction for new product concepts;
  • Develops and implements strategy for managing product lifetimes to maximize profit and proprietary position;
  • Manages all R&D/Product Development, Technical Sales Support, Microbiology, Analytical and Applications groups worldwide.
  • Provides strategic direction for investment in new products and lab capabilities;
  • Manages all aspects of performance appraisal and compensation programs for technology personnel worldwide
  • Develops and manages all budgets for all technical departments on a worldwide basis.
  • Responsible for written information (MSDS, Product Information Sheets and other technical information) regarding company products so that customers understand the various applications that company products can satisfy and provide guidance on how to optimize product performance.
  • Works alongside Regulatory to obtain relevant product registrations for Troy products to support the sales and marketing of various product lines as well as customer products in order to comply with federal, state, local, and international regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to market incursions by other companies, domestic and international, that infringe upon company intellectual property rights.


MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:

The effectiveness of the function is measured by: the speed with which new products are brought to the market with all the information required to successfully introduce those products; the resulting sales of those new products; the relevance of data generated for Marketing & Sales to generate new product bulletins and brochures; the number of new product approvals generated annually; the number and the quality of patents and other IP generated by the group; and the sales of products that are protected by patents.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

PhD in Chemistry, or Biology, along with fifteen years or more of progressive leadership experience in a technical function within the chemical industry.
