The Transportation Manager directs and oversees the development and management of inbound freight sourcing programs and solutions for BMC. Successfully achieving cost saving transportation programs while ensuring on-time delivery of products and goods. Implements and maintains the BMC Transportation Management Sysytem (TMS). Directs and oversees Logistics based Indirect Spend sourcing programs and solutions for BMC. Successfully achieving cost saving programs while ensuring optimal programs and efficient program management.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and ongoing management of the BMC TMS system.
  • Works with the Sourcing Team scheduling daily and weekly routes for inbound product shipment from mills & manufacturers to BMC locations.
  • Tracking orders using functional systems (e.g. ERP & TMSD systems as well as barcodes and tracking software).
  • Plan and supervise the shipments from production to the end-user.
  • Proactively partners with national and market level operations team; analyzing and selecting proper transportation options.
  • Coordinate and implement multiple national and regional transportation service programs. Engage Sr. Sourcing Manager and Market Leaders to ensure overall sourcing program integration and cost changes are reviewed.
  • Proactively identify and assist locations with inventory issues by anticipating and coordinating the transportation portion of inventory transfers and vendor returns.
  • Evaluate and expand unbundling freight programs and shipping needs. Determine and utilize the most cost effective and efficient transportation resources.
  • Develop and expand new carrier vendor options; optimizing loads on current lanes alongside the current unbundling program.
  • Monitor, tracking and report continued savings through unbundling programs.
  • Input and maintain Trend Rate tables within company software.
  • Regularly provides business intelligence, transportation and unbundling trends and feedback to Leadership Team.
  • Effectively communicate with diverse levels of customers, vendors and associates.
  • Acting as point of contact for indirect spend programs ensuring communication of feedback, issues and concerns are surfaced to both vendors, location management and market leaders.
  • Research, identify and implement new logistics based indirect spend program opportunities to maximize indirect spend program savings.
  • Proactively monitor, review and update intranet postings of indirect spend program outlines.
  • Design benchmark and program measurement standards; regularly audit to determine program performance. Adjusting program strategies and options to achieve maximum cost savings and optimal program field performance.

Required Skills

  • Minimum education required: Bachelors in Business Management, Supply Chain, Logisitics or related field or applicable work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Solid knowledge of supply chain management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills a must.
  • Familiarity with logistics software.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • MS Office and Computer literate.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years related experience.
  • Intermediate Trend knowledge is ideal. Experienced in management and oversight of multiple locations in a transportation role is required.
  • Experience preparing and tracking orders.
