The Software QA Engineering Manager will be based in San Jose, CA and report to the overall Engineering Manager. He or she is responsible for managing approximately 7 direct reports supporting Software Quality Assurance and Technical Documentation duties. The Software QA functions include the scheduling, building, and testing of periodic software releases. Additionally, SW QA helps to develop and maintain tools and processes used to promote continuous SW development/test productivity improvements. The Technical documentation describes the software APIs provided to support testing methods/techniques that the customer can apply in their device test program. The documentation also describes the guidelines for the successful installation and maintenance of the tester. The manager will provide communication of vital information between the SQA/Tech Doc group and the other functional Nextest groups. The manager will also provide a vision to continuously improve the SQA/Tech Doc group’s value and contributions needed in the successful delivery of Nextest products.
Specific Responsibilities :
The position will be responsible for the following :
Hiring, mentoring, and retention of engineering staff.
Determining staffing levels and qualifications to satisfy all product level commitments.
Provide annual staff performance reviews.
Participation as senior staff member in the strategic direction of Nextest.
Ensuring all software products meet requirements and are delivered as scheduled.
Establish and maintain a collaborative working environment across product management, research, and engineering development teams.
Establish and maintain engineering development processes throughout the product lifecycle stages.
BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. MSEE, MSCS, and/or MBA strongly desirable.
Experience :
The ideal candidate will possess an MSEE/MSCS and 15-20 years software/hardware test development experience working for a “tier-one” corporation and a company that has a reputation in delivering world class HW/SW products. This will require an individual who is familiar with “best practice” design methodologies in a rapid development product environment.
Requires an individual capable of quickly learning the technical HW and SW concepts of the memory testing to provide guidance to the SQA team in developing testing plans/strategies needed to verify the tester software requirements. A strong balanced HW/SW skills are needed to identify and isolate defects and provide simplified test cases that can be resolved by engineering developers.
Requires an individual with extensive experience with source control tools/processes and SW release builds. The individual should be able to develop tools/strategies to support rapid SW development and release generation.
Requires an individual with experience with current commercial tools and automation techniques needed to support multiple parallel product development and test requirements. The ability to generate scripts to implement/debug automated processes is highly desirable.
Requires an individual with experience in development test fixtures needed to support SQA test suite execution. Additionally, the individual should be able to work with the Application group to transfer/port test programs and fixtures needed to augment SQA regression testing.
Requires an individual with programming skills that can be used to provide Tech Documentation vision/guidance for test program development.
Requires an individual with experience tracking, assigning, and prioritizing defect reports. Running the process to review and process defect report is essential for planning and monitoring active SW release status.
