The Senior Director of Application Development will drive the enterprise wide digital technology strategy for one of the nation’s leading providers of diversified building products and services.
Partner with senior leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners to define the immediate and long term IT application development strategies that help support and drive business growth across BMC. This critical role will not only develop the strategy but will also help define the organization and architecture requirements to implement and support these IT solutions.
As a member of the Corporate Information Technology team and reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will excel if you have a passion for fast paced growth coupled with a strong intellectual curiosity and the drive to truly impact, not just support, the entire business operation.
Leading a team of 4 functional leader with a total team size of approximately 30 associates (plus contractors), the Senior Director of Application Development will be responsible for all components of:
- ERP (development and support)
- Applications, Enterprise Systems (development and support)
- Shared Services (Quality Assurance, Integration – Service Architecture)
- Business Intelligence (development and support for Advanced Analytics)

Position Overview:
The Senior Director of Application Development will identify, define and drive innovative IT solutions that reflect the BMC’s commitment to excellence in providing state of the art solutions for both internal and external customers. This includes responsibility for:
- Development and support of the strategy and roadmap for Applications Development for Enterprise Systems.
- Collaboration with key business partners on the development and execution of solutions that ultimately support BMC’s desire to innovate far beyond industry expectations.
- Architect and Implement a scalable integration architecture designed to speed the on-boarding of third party solutions utilizing a micro services architecture / cloud etc.
- Driving new technology pilots to a rapid, high quality decision point; test and learn, quickly adjust as necessary, and get back on track in short order.
- Development of partnerships with technology partners to quickly deliver proof of concept pilots of new technology.
- Recommend distribution industry and company solution best-practices to ensure adoption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish a strategy to continue the configuration, deployment, and support of the ERP solution (Infor – Trend) across the entire enterprise.
- Develop a strategy to effectively modernize data warehousing and business intelligence solutions to maximize the power of analytics.
- Act as key liaison with internal business stakeholders as well as key vendors/external technology partners to identify innovative technologies.
- Determine feasibility, proposed value, effort/resources, prioritization and key metrics across the project portfolio.
- Maintain current knowledge of business including, vision, goals, direction and strategy to ensure alignment with BMC’s short and long term goals.
- Define metrics and put processes in place to validate the benefits/value of potential solutions to help drive decision making for potential technology investments.
- As a senior member of the Corporate IT team, earn the status of trusted advisor and subject matter expert with business partners.
- Define detailed business case benefits tied to project functionality.
- Mentor and coach direct reports in an effort to create and sustain a highly engaged team of employees.
- Identify areas of risk, bottlenecks issues and opportunities, while advising leadership on impacts and decisions.
Required Skills
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year college or university, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field of study.
- Strong verifiable knowledge of IT application development/enterprise systems, integration architecture including cloud and microservices, and business analytics leadership.
- Ability to effectively communicate technology solutions on a high level to non-technical business people, and business solutions on a high level to the technical teams.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to deliver a compelling message to diverse types of audiences (i.e., senior management, mid-level management, vendor partners, business users and technical team members).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in business, information technology, computer science, or related discipline.
- ERP background utilizing Infor.

- Ability to influence senior level management and key stakeholders with a capacity to communicate abstract concepts to diverse audiences through graphic presentations, verbally and in writing.
- Proven technical experience in developing and implementing Application and BI strategies across a large, complex organization.
- Ability to provide thought leadership and strategic direction for application development and support of enterprise systems.
- Success in developing, driving, and supporting innovative e-commerce solutions.
- Knowledge of and experience working projects through a software development lifecycle.
- Ability to think strategically and act tactically; manage multiple activities simultaneously with minimal direction while relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- Thorough understanding of how to quickly cut through complex issues and choose the best solution and course of action.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with particular strengths in negotiations and interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to forge effective working relationships with internal cross-functional leadership teams and external business partners.

- Proven leadership capabilities with strong communication, analytical, and problem solving skills.

Required Experience
Mandatory Qualifications:
- 10 or more years of technical and/or business oversight in a distribution, multi-location, or consulting practice with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Experience managing and leading diverse cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FORTUNE 1000 company experience, preferably in a distribution or manufacturing oriented environment.
- Prior experience in a consulting environment for mid to large scale corporations.
