Position: Open Sky Education (OSE) Principal Director

Reports to: President of Schools

The Principal Director for Open Sky Education will provide strategic coaching and management to principals to catalyze their professional growth ensuring that through their leadership we provide an excellent education for thousands of scholars in our networks. Specifically, the Principal Director will provide management and direct the personal and professional development of our principals around the five areas of character formation, academics, culture, resource management and leadership. The Principal Director is also responsible for reporting progress and results to our Regional Executive Directors and will collaborate with the ED’s for final assessment and evaluation of all principals

Location: St. Louis Region

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Regional Executive Director of each region to support and manage their cohort of Principals.
  • Provide support and management for each principal to assist them in meeting school-wide goals in alignment with the OSE Schools dashboard covering all areas of school operations (education, culture, operations and people). This will include leading monthly school operational reviews with each Principal.
  • Meet individually with each Principal to establish Professional and Personal Leadership Development Plans as well as schoolwide annual plans.
  • Conduct school visits to observe principals at work to assess the progress of each principal against the Open Sky competency model and deliver feedback based on observations.
  • Work with and deploy additional Open Sky functional leads to coach principals in content areas (academics, culture, resource management and leadership) where necessary.
  • Assess each principal to verify that each Principal has successfully demonstrated progress and proficiency on all the Principal competencies.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Director Team in the development and reporting of metrics, content development and related resources for training principals.
  • Support recruitment and lead selection of outstanding principals in collaboration with our Regional EDs.
  • Attend outside seminars, conferences or training programs needed to keep aware of best practices in principal leadership and coaching

Qualifications: The Principal Director will be an experienced, successful urban school principal or school leadership coach that is dedicated to the Open Sky mission of ensuring rigorous academics, character formation, are accessible and affordable to all children. Experience in founding a school is preferred. This individual needs to bring together a rare combination of passion, experience, and talent and will also:

  • Be able to effectively teach others how to lead our models of academic excellence, and character formation.
  • Have a demonstrated record of improving student outcomes as a principal or principal supporter.
  • Be dedicated to sharing insights and experiences with the next generation of school leaders.
  • Have experience in leading/advising high-quality mentor/mentee relations, whether between teachers or administrators.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as inter- and intra- personal skills.
  • Understand the context of urban schools based on current or prior experience.
  • Strong MS Office skills, especially Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to sweat the details and get the job done no matter what.
