WCCS Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

· M.A. Degree in Administration.

  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in Christian Education
  • Administrative experience preferred
  • A strong testimony of Christian leadership in home, church, and community.

REPORTS TO: Board of Education

SUPERVISES: All employees in general; specific evaluations required of all except those supervised by other administrators.

JOB GOAL: Serve as the primary leader and overseer of the school in all areas, completing the duties associated with planning, developing, organizing, and managing to fulfill the Mission, Goals and Objectives of Wood County Christian School.

SALARY: Set annually by the School Board.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 12 months; 3 weeks of vacation time; school holidays; flex-time as needed to satisfy ministry demands, attendance at professional meetings, athletic events, etc.

EVALUATION: By the chairman of the Board of Education

RESPONSIBILITIES: General Duties
· Provide spiritual leadership to the school families and students by giving evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in a daily walk with Christ.

  • Be an active member of one of the supporting churches of Wood County Christian School, or an approved sister congregation, being faithful in attendance and giving.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Board of Education and Parent Advisory Council.
  • Work directly with the board in developing policy and setting direction for the school.
  • Maintain the minutes book in safe keeping and distribute monthly agendas and minutes of the previous meeting.
  • Work with the School Board President in developing the agenda for regular and special meetings of the School Board.
  • Assist the board pastors in planning times of spiritual emphasis for the students, in scheduling chapel speakers throughout the year; in coordinating the counseling service, and in planning student outreach.
  • Be responsible for the health and safety of the students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist teachers and elementary coordinator in administration and enforcement of discipline as needed in difficult and/or serious cases.
  • Stay informed of legal/legislative matters at the local, state, and national levels, communicating as needed to the board, faculty, and families. Ensure that WCCS remains in compliance as required.
  • Oversee graduation planning.
  • Teach 1-2 classes per year.
  • Lead a weekly small group at the secondary level.
  • Make decisions on school closings/delays.
  • Cover for elementary coordinator in her absence.

Coordination
· Conduct weekly meetings with elementary coordinator.

· Conduct combined teacher meetings regularly.

· Conduct Parent Advisory Council meetings.

· Oversee extra-curricular activities of the school including athletic programs and student organizations, working with leaders to coordinate yearly goals and objectives, insuring financial stability.

Public Relations
· Visit supporting churches and prospective new congregations communicating the ministry of Wood County Christian School, reporting, and enlisting, as appropriate.

· Maintain regular communication with supporting Pastors.

  • Promote and supervise the parent involvement programs including Parent-Teacher Fellowships, Parent Advisory Council, and Parent Volunteers.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the Wood County Schools.
  • Maintain an active relationship with the West Virginia Christian Education Association (WVCEA) and the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS), attending appropriate meetings in representation of the school.
  • Be active in the enlistment of new students.
  • Communicate with prospective families, conduct interviews and help orient the new families and students to the school.
  • Promote the school in the community through advertisement, mailings, and community activities.
  • Handle calls of parents seeking information on WCCS – send appropriate information to prospective families.

· Send weekly school news to parents

Finances
· Present an annual recommendation to the board for the improvement of the salary schedule and fringe benefits for teachers and service personnel.

· Work with the school parents and faculty/staff in planning, scheduling and carrying out annual fundraisers.

Personnel
· Organize, motivate, and manage the faculty and staff to attain the objectives of the school.

· Be the center of intercommunication between the board and the faculty and staff.

· Develop an evaluation procedure of school personnel and annually carry out the system reporting results to the school board.

· Supervise the faculty and staff in helping them complete their work and improve their skills.

· Provide opportunities for professional growth through yearly in-service training programs.

· Assist the faculty in the administration and enforcement of discipline as needed in difficult and/or serious cases.

· Work with the Board Personnel Committee to conduct personnel interviews and make recommendations regarding any open positions.

· Work closely with all administrators and division elementary coordinator

· Securing and releasing teachers/teachers aides and reviewing contracts

· Lead faculty/staff meetings.

Student Activities
· Propose and submit to school board the annual school calendar (by Feb.)

· Oversee the extra-curricular activities of the school including athletic programs and student organizations, working with the leaders to coordinate yearly goals and objectives, ensuring financial stability.

· Assist the faculty in counseling students as needed.

Curriculum and Instruction
· Serve as the educational consultant to the board by providing information and counsel on the school’s educational programs and procedures.

· Lead the faculty in continuous refinement and development of the curriculum.

· Stay informed of trends in education and educational innovation so as to guide adoption of changes that will improve the school by attending professional conferences and workshops, by reading, and by visiting other ministries and schools.

· Provide specific information for the board as needed for long range planning.

Enrollment
· Conduct the process of enrollment for new families and students including: initial contact, distribution of literature, interviews and tour, testing, application processing, securing records, placement and scheduling, assignment of friend, follow-up call to home of enrollee, communication with teachers, etc.

· Involve others from the administrative team and personnel committee in the enrollment process as needed or appropriate to determine acceptance of new students.

Marketing/Fundraising
· Write grants.

· Solicit donations.

· Oversee production of and distribution of television commercials, newspaper advertisements, etc.

Secondary
· Pray for and encourage each teacher to meet their needs and make them feel appreciated, satisfied, positive, growing spiritually and professionally

· Review annual improvement goals – counsel, find videos, books, etc., to assist in professional growth

· Monitor behavior patterns and dress code of students

· Receive the incoming concerns of parents on school issues.

· Schedule regular meetings with teachers.

· Oversee coordination of monthly Purple & Gold Award.

· Work with elementary secretary in differentiating between excused and unexcused absences and apply the appropriate policy for excuses.

· Review mid-term reports and quarterly progress reports to monitor academic success, teacher communication, and insure a quality report for each student.

· Receive incoming concerns of parents on school issues.

· Plan for various school functions and activities working with coordinators in various school functions (eg, Christmas program, Pastor Appreciation, Honor Society, etc.).
