JOB DESCRIPTION

In this role, you will be the primary executive responsible for all aspects of transportation and shipping at ThriftBooks Global, LLC. You will lead a highly collaborative team that is focused first on our customers and cost. You will drive the next generation in innovation of our carriers; as well as, our software initiatives. The role is highly collaborative and works closely with other Supply Chain functions, as well as internal stakeholders from Operations, Marketing, Customer Service and Technology teams to ensure ThriftBooks’ supply network satisfies customer demand at the lowest optimal cost.

You, along with Engineering own the process for the shipping org. You need to be comfortable working with carriers and sales executives; as well as, associates on the floor. You are the leader!


Core Accountabilities:

Advocate for the best carrier/software combination to ThriftBooks which allows us a competitive edge in freight and parcel delivery

  • Negotiate and manage the relationships with our carriers and ensure we are getting the best rates possible
  • Establish and manage auditing of contract rates versus invoices
  • Ensure carrier performance at all operational locations nationally
  • Proactively establish the lowest possible cost structure for largest expense item for the company

Execute strategy each day so that our customers are getting the most value possible by doing business with ThriftBooks

  • Direct an ongoing RFP process with inbound/outbound carriers and storage providers
  • Coordinate specialized pick up programs for mid-size accounts and special events
  • Vendor and carrier performance and cost management
  • Coordinate annual peak volume offsite storage programs


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 5 years successful inbound freight and/or small parcel carrier negotiation experience

o E-Commerce transportation experience a big plus

  • 5 years managing a team of transportation analysts/coordinators
  • 5 years managing transportation for a national network

Position type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.


Travel

20% travel to the warehouses


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • 7 years of experience in transportation management and contract negotiation.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Logistics, or Engineering)
  • 7 years of experience in team leadership, contract negotiation and vendor performance management with FTL, LTL and small parcel carriers.
