Brief Job Summary:
FFA is a dynamic youth organization that changes lives and prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. FFA develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real- world success by becoming leaders in agriculture or any career path they choose.
The Montana FFA Foundation’s mission is to cultivate partnerships, promote awareness, and secure resources to enhance Agricultural Education and the Montana FFA Association.
The Director of Development will be responsible and accountable for developing and implementing private and public fundraising strategies in support of Montana FFA’s high priority, multi-disciplinary Ag Education and
FFA programs. This position is responsible for donor cultivation, recruitment, fundraising and account stewardship. Successful candidate will promote the organization within the targeted communities to ensure a broad base of funding resources and statewide donor base growth. This position requires 40-50% of time traveling throughout the state for existing sponsor visits and cultivation of new funding prospects. Position also assists the Executive Director, as needed, in current campaigns and funding strategies.
The ideal candidate will enjoy playing an integral strategic role in the step-change growth of a highly successful non-profit, while securing and serving our expanding donor base. The Director of Development reports to the
Executive Director.
Essential Job Functions: (include the following. Other duties may be assigned.)
Fundraising: 70%
1. Serves as primary developer and coordinator for major fundraising campaigns. Works in close coordination with ED to develop action plans to expand the donor base and secure funding for Foundation program and support expansion, including expansion of capital campaign and endowment campaign efforts.
2. Develops fundraising action plans and is responsible for coordinating all activities pertaining to operational financial development, including special events, donor recruitment for ongoing programs, and community involvement.
3. Engages in direct cultivation of major prospects including individuals, corporations, foundations, & trusts.
4. Serves as primary lead in identifying, prioritizing, and completing grants on behalf of the Foundation.
Requires close coordination with ED to ensure funding targets fit current and/or planned programs for expansion.
Donor Relations : 20%
1. Assists other development staff in developing marketing priorities of current fundraising campaigns and implements creative ideas to utilize the Foundation’s communication tools for donor outreach and recognition of key donors.
2. Assists the ED in representing the organization at community events. Works to establish positive relationships with community leaders and existing donors while seeking new partnerships with community businesses, vendors, and individuals for expanded program support.
3. Maintains existing donor database, identifying donors for various giving programs. Assures confidentiality and accuracy of donor information.
4. Prepares donor recognition and appreciation material and ensures distribution in a timely manner.
5. Establishes a donor outreach practice that engages Foundation staff and Board Members in periodic update and stewardship activities to top donors.

_ _ 1. Provides a comprehensive report of fundraising activities each month, or as requested by ED.
Administrative Assistance: 5%
1. Answers administrative office phones when in the office.
2. General office maintenance and assistance.

- Fundraising knowledge and experience including basic fundraising principles and execution techniques for donor expansion.
- Developed and demonstrated skills in donor cultivation, stewardship, and relationship building.
- Proven skills in marketing strategies and practices and media operations. Ability to oversee production of print materials, coordinate direct mail solicitations. Ability to interpret community demographics and coordinate current campaigns based off Foundation priorities.
- Demonstrated program management knowledge to include special event planning and production and building/maintaining a donor base.
- Strong written and verbal communicator.
- Works efficiently and effectively (able to prioritize multiple projects and can work proactively and independently).
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge/experience with the FFA organization, mission and core values.
- Fundraising experience
- Account management experience
