About the team
The employee communications team drives internal communications within Zillow Group, and is passionate about informing, engaging, and encouraging employees to deliver on our company mission, strategies, priorities and values! This role will report to the Zillow Group senior director of internal communications, working closely with corporate communications, leadership communications, public relations, human resources, business segment communications leads, and other shared services teams to deliver integrated and consistent messaging to our employees. You’ll have the opportunity to work with leaders and colleagues to develop strategy, messaging and programming for key internal campaigns and programs. You’ll lead and influence story content for employee engagement, with an emphasis on business results, innovation, community and culture, and more!

The Director of Employee Communications leads a team of communications professionals who are helping enhance employee understanding and engagement of Zillow’s mission, values, strategy and objectives.
This person will be responsible for the strategic planning, direction and goal setting for company-wide employee communications and working collaboratively across the Corporate Relations function and the entire company. The ideal candidate loves thinking through the big-picture strategy and has a passion for encouraging employees through storytelling, but isn’t afraid to roll up his/her sleeves and execute.
Key Duties
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for employee communications with clear objectives and key results that substantially contribute to growing employee engagement.
- Incorporate innovative communications solutions to improve employee awareness, understanding, ownership, engagement and advocacy of Zillow’s mission, strategy, priorities and values.
- Partner with Leadership Communications team on change management communications so employees have a clear understanding of the reasons for business and strategy decisions.
- Design and lead a comprehensive employee communication program that builds an authentic and transparent two-way dialog with employees.
- Lead a team responsible for the implementation and execution of strategic employee communication plans for key lines of business including Zillow Offers, Premier Agent Sales, Mortgages, New Construction, Technology and back office departments.
- Mentors and develops direct and indirect reports and, enhancing capability and building bench strength for the organization.
- Provide employee communications advice, counsel, coaching and support to C-level executives and key leadership team executives regarding employee communications strategy.
- Craft key messages, narratives and stories for internal presentations.
- Completes major writing assignments and reviews and edits the work of direct reports.
- Lead the development and incorporate a mobile communication and intranet strategy that becomes a daily must-read destination for company news and announcements.
- Partners with Corporate Relations peers and contributes to strategic thinking and execution of internal and external communications strategies.
- Collaborate with other department senior leaders to develop and implement employee communications strategies throughout the organization.
- Ensures timely and effective execution of employee communications strategies.
- Serve, or delegate service on committees and special projects within the company
Who you are
- 10-15 years of employee communications experience, which must include development and execution of essential communication plans and narratives.
- Proven track record of cross-group collaboration, the ability to influence corporate and local teams at multiple levels of the organization respectfully and expertly.
- Strategic storyteller and creative thinker who’s always advocating for our employees.
- Ability to quickly build rapport with senior management and provide sound counsel on all communications matters.
- Fast paced self-starter with good judgement and a strong attention to detail.
- Proven experience leading and developing teams.
- High levels of energy, enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, good humor, and commitment.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in Communications, Journalism, or Business Management.
