Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Associate Director for Global Engagement will lead the Global Engagement team in order to offer academically-coordinated international learning, research, and internship opportunities. This Academic Affairs-based and -directed program, working with other University offices such as Research and Career Services, will organize and coordinate for students an integrated program of formal coursework, international experience, and experiential learning opportunities (e.g., internships, research, service projects, reflective essay), with the objective of broadening and deepening student perspectives and sharpening intellectual and practical skills to prepare them for business, professional, and civic leadership.

Responsibilities*

Work directly with academic units and through the Council for Global Engagement work with the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, to coordinate, maintain and establish new international student exchange, articulation and hosting agreements.

Prepare and facilitate the creation of Memoranda of Understanding and other agreements, in collaboration with university units and their international affiliates. Review international agreements with relevant academic and administrative departments. Facilitate signatures of designated signing authorities and maintain appropriate records in coordination with the Office of the Provost and the Procurement and Contracts Office.

With faculty, develop an integrated program of instruction, international experience opportunities, and experimental learning opportunities to support student integrated learning experiences.

Manage and negotiate a core of international institutional partnerships, including key strategic partnerships, to support a variety of academic study-abroad opportunities for students and research/teaching exchange opportunities for faculty.

Coordinate the agendas for the Advisory Council for Global Engagement.

Work collaboratively with UM-Flint academic units to develop existing and new student-exchange and study-abroad opportunities, including international 2+2, joint degree, transfer agreements, and dual degree programs, as well as joint faculty research & teaching exchange opportunities.

In coordination with units such as the Career Center and the Colleges & Schools, identify and negotiate international or internationally-related internship opportunities, including developing a program of business-culture and general cultural-awareness workshops/courses for students and faculty.

Organize and manage delegation visits from and to international institutions in support of international goals.

With general supervision from the Associate Provost, provide oversight for the Education Abroad Coordinator as well as two Program Managers.

Required Qualifications*

Master’s degree

More than 5 years demonstrated experience establishing & managing international academic exchange programs/projects.

Demonstrated and proven excellent communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills.

Demonstrated ability to work successfully as a team member, collaborating with faculty, staff, community and international partners.

Demonstrated facility in verbal & written English.

Demonstrated experience successfully managing resources and budgets.

Must have the ability to travel to international locations.
