Definition: This position is responsible for monitoring design and construction contracts, scheduling and coordinating all aspects of construction projects, and conducting a broad range of research and field investigations in order to make recommendations to management related to facility construction projects and/or long range planning needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs assignments requiring the application of diversified knowledge of design principles, construction and management principles and practices in broad areas for construction of capital improvement projects and special assigned projects, including dealing with consultants, contractors and other outside agencies
  • May perform assignments that include recommendations for bid specifications, evaluations of bid proposals, contract development and construction quality control
  • Exercises practical judgment in the evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria
  • Reviews project schedules of work and manages all parties to ensure work meets quality standards
  • Assists in the maintenance project documents, cost estimates, and tracking expenditures
  • Performs a variety of delegated research tasks
  • Contributes to the improvement of target plans and overall cost competitiveness through planned productive, efficient, and innovative programs
  • Interacts with internal and external customers within the City

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing & HVAC systems as well as the ability to interpret plans and specifications
  • Ten (10) years of high level project experience in commercial and/or institutional construction including at least two (2) years’ experience with coordination of governmental construction project management and operations for capital improvement projects

OR

  • Associate Degree and eight (8) years of high level project experience in commercial and/or institutional construction including at least two (2) years’ experience with coordination of governmental construction project management and operations for capital improvement projects

OR

  • Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of high level project experience in commercial and/or institutional construction including at least two (2) years’ experience with coordination of governmental construction project management and operations for capital improvement projects

OR

  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, and criminal history background check
