Associates at Optum Growth Partners gain exposure to all aspects of private equity including deal thesis generation, sourcing, performing initial underwriting for new investments, onboarding companies onto the platform, driving day to day value creation of the assets once acquired and ultimately monetization. Given the lean structure, associates will directly work with senior management within the firm and at portfolio companies on deal teams consisting of 3 or 4 investment professionals. Associates will also have direct exposure to the broader UnitedHealth Group portfolio of businesses and operating experts as part of thesis generation and synergy execution activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Research and analyze target industries and proactively identify new investment opportunities
  • Perform all aspects of transaction due diligence and underwriting
  • Structure/build detailed financial models to support investment decisions. These modeling activities include creating financial statements and complex ROI and IRR calculations
  • Participate in meetings with management teams, M&A intermediaries and financing sources
  • Participate in meetings with UnitedHealth Group executives
  • Assist in the pricing, negotiating and documenting of transactions
  • Author pitch materials and investment committee memorandums (ICMs)
  • Provide support to asset management initiatives of existing investments including but not limited to financial analysis, developing and executing business plans and other ad hoc strategic projects
  • Build ad-hoc analysis and prepare high-level research as needed

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related business field required
  • 3-6 years of experience in an investment bank, private-equity focused accounting transaction services or private equity required
  • Transaction and acquisition experience required
  • Strong analytic and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • A quantitative thinker able to use numbers to generate and validate critical concepts and extract insight and conclusions based on data and market intelligence
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to easily transfer confidence across multiple constituencies
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and manage time
  • Demonstrated track record of strong leadership
  • A self-teacher and quick learner able to pick up the technical skills necessary for any project
  • Hard working, detail-oriented, and committed to producing great end results
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Team player with a positive attitude
  • Expertise required in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Role requires frequent domestic travel
  • Job operates in a professional office environment
  • Role generally requires long hours – 50+ hours per week
