ELS is hiring for the position of Sustainability Manager in Chicago, Illinois.

What you’ll do:

In this role, you will work closely with the Sustainability Director as an expert on technology, sustainability and conservation, utility infrastructure optimization, bill paying, consolidation of purchase power, and more. You will help develop and roll out key initiatives across all utilities and directly impact ELS’ profitability.

Your job will include:

  • Lead ELS’ sustainability reporting strategy, including annual sustainability report and third-party disclosure frameworks
  • Managing projects and supervising cross-functional teams as we roll out new sustainability initiatives which may include installation of better technologies
  • Developing and standardizing useful ESG reporting tools; responsible for data quality, management, monitoring of ESG data and key performance indicators (including energy, water, waste and greenhouse gas [GHG] emissions)
  • You may be required to help prepare and present clear recommendations to the executive team, identifying risks, unknowns, timelines and market information/trends while ensuring project completion to satisfy goals.

Experience & skills you need:

  • You have 3+ years of utilities and energy strategy experience, with a record of success.
  • You like to stay informed and remain current on the latest innovations in the utility and energy fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability or related field; Master’s Degree is a plus
  • Background in sustainability reporting, carbon accounting and/or alternative energy is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of greenhouse gas accounting principles
  • Working experience with the Global Reporting Initiative Framework (GRI) and other sustainability frameworks
  • Ability to work and thrive in an outcome oriented and collaborative culture, both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are a strong communicator and have excellent written and oral communication styles. You are persuasive and able to tailor your message to your audience, including top executives.
  • You have an excellent work ethic based on self-confidence, integrity, taking initiative, and personal responsibility. You enjoy driving continuous improvement and working to fulfill strategic visions.
  • You are analytical and take a detailed approach, using economic, financial, market and industry data to understand and improve business results.
  • Strong project management skills and you can carry out multiple concurrent projects and tasks while remaining organized.
  • Nimble using technology and experienced with Excel
  • Ability to travel
