The Department of Bioethics & Humanities, housed in the UW School of Medicine, is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator/Project Manager for PICNIC (PrImary Care GeNetIC Testing), an NIH-funded research study of best practices for the implementation of genomic testing and follow-up care in low resource healthcare systems.
OVERVIEW
The PICNIC study is a complex genetic testing and healthcare systems implementation project involving five Co-Principal Investigators at separate institutions, with two distinct cohorts involving 72,000 research participants at 12 primary care clinics, and three subcontracts. The Research Coordinator will be expected to carry out high quality, accurate work in a multi-faceted research environment where command of quantitative details is essential. The ideal candidate will be organized, flexible, and self-motivated with a desire to learn, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work and thrive in a diverse, interdisciplinary academic research environment.
The Research Coordinator/Project Manager will be based at the University of Washington in Seattle, and will work closely with PICNIC investigators at various institutions and primary care clinics within other healthcare systems, including The Billings Clinic, Multicare Health System, and Boston University.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research Project Management:
Together with the Project Coordination Team, support the development and implementation of study protocols, procedures, timelines, budgets, and milestones to accomplish research goals. Work closely with the Implementation Team (including the primary care clinics and collaborating institutions), to ensure initial and ongoing training on the study protocols, procedures, timelines, and milestones so as to ensure all collaborators are on track with their budgets, data entry, regulatory, and other project requirements. Coordinate administrative planning with the Project Coordination Team to facilitate effective meetings, assist with budget development, coordinate project-related travel and purchasing, circulate successful communications with collaborators and all project stakeholders, and assure on-time submissions to the IRB and NIH. Facilitate connections between investigators, collaborators, and clinics to successfully coordinate day-to-day research operations, as well as coordinate weekly and monthly meetings with the Project Coordination Team and Implementation Activities Team, including scheduling, agendas, and minutes.
Research Compliance Oversight:
Establish monitoring protocols and report to the Implementation Team about the status of research activities conducted at UW and the collaborating universities, health systems, and primary care clinics and their adherence to federal, state, local, and institutional compliance with regulations and policies guiding the conduct of research involving human subjects. Identify compliance issues (protocol deviations) and/or obstacles to meeting research objectives, report to regulatory oversight committees (IRB, NIH, DSMB), propose solutions consulting with investigators as appropriate, and implement solutions across collaborating institutions and clinics. Prepare and manage IRB applications and modifications on behalf of all collaborators in the Single IRB system. Develop and manage interim progress reports to investigators, sponsors, IRB, and DSMB. Track, monitor, and provide regular communications listing projected and actual progress on 1) adherence to protocols, procedures, timelines, and milestones; 2) budgets, contracts, subcontracts, and other financial matters related to the research project; and 3) efforts of collaborating individuals and project teams.
Other Responsibilities:
Supervise the work of up to three research interviewers onsite at UW (grant years 4-5). Participate in the development and editing of manuscripts, posters and presentations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT
This role requires an ability to effectively navigate research administration and human subjects requirements within the UW and to cohesively interface with two other healthcare systems in order to implement a research project involving five Co-Principal Investigators at separate institutions, with two distinct cohorts involving 72,000 research participants at 12 primary care clinics, and three subcontracts.
